Not sure if PSU or GPU causing the noise issue.

Hi dudes, hope you are having a good day.

Bit of a backgroud, my power supply used to squeal and whine hell which started a couple of months after upgrading to a GTX 1070, it did this for the past year but just today it seems to have gotten a little quieter and I don't know why.

Excellent news! but now the noise is quieter I have noticed that the noise from the PSU seems to corrospond with a noise that the gpu is making, if I uncap the frames in certain games the psu noise would get a lot louder and in other games with the frames capped at 60 the power supply will can still make the same electrical grinding type noise.

Now I know what coil whine sounds like on a gpu but my gpu doesn't seem to making a coil whine noise and the noise it is making seems to be be in tandum with the PSU noise and the noise level will change with the PSU noise level despite being a lot quester thn the PSU.

The PSU is a Be Quiet! CM BQT L8-730W Pure Power 80 Bronze.

Have you actually located noise to come from PSU, with some device like cardboard/plastic pipe?
Just listening by ear isn't that reliable method for locating source.

Anyway if that PSU is approaching five year with those at best second tier Teapos might be time to start consider replacing it.
It was never any high quality PSU.

Thank you for your reply, well the noise is coming from both but the louder noise is from the PSU and certain forced situations makes the PSU really whine over anoy other nosie. I was looking to upgrade to the Straight Power 11 750W.

I was looking to upgrade to the Straight Power 11 750W.
You would get clearly higher quality Seasonic with also little higher efficiency and 7 years longer warranty for same price.

For their highish price BeQuiet doesn't even give more than standard level 5 years warranty.

Or over £30 cheaper 80 Gold PSU

But for GTX 1070 level graphics card 550W is already well enough and 650W is for most single graphics card PCs without notable overclocking.

i was hearing a grinding noise now and again when gaming, turns out it was the fan in my 7 year old seasonic psu. I used a ice cream wooden stick to slow the fan down and the noise stopped. I ended up purchasing the Riotoro 750w which is basically a seasonic focus plus rebrand.
