Sure, It will add a lot when we have the hardware to use RT as the main way of doing such things but for now it's limited use is as mentioned elsewhere no more than a demo of what's to come.
There's a big, big, big problem with that, tho.

JSH already said we need something like 2000 times the power to do pure RT. That just isn't possible now we're very close to the limits of silicon.

We won't be getting 2000 times the power of today's GPUs in our lifetime.

So whilst we might get improved Hybrid RT, we'll never get pure RT, or even anywhere close to it.

I think it will actually end up getting a lot faster and very quickly. It's very early days and still time for radical enhancements before the performance increases slow down.

Tbh though it’s not really that noticeable in BF5 it’s certainly not driving my decision. I’ll have RT when a gen comes along that destroys my 1080ti whilst not costing £1300

Until then I’m not feeling I’m missing out on anything...I want to try and keep as close to 100fps in games at 3440x1400 and the 1080ti does that...

RT at 100fps at 3440x1440p would be cool in a card costing £650

Basically yeah. I see the potential in it but the cards just aren't up to it yet. It's like 1991VR.
Down the road If it's there and it runs well then I will use it but I'm desperate for. On the subject of VR, that blows my mind more than a few shiny reflections in BF5, and it works awesome on my current system.

Depends how specialised they go with hardware or if other software or algorithm breakthroughs are made.

Indeed but it's still a hell of a gap to make up.

If you somehow develop an algo 10x more efficient than today's, you still need 200x the hardware power...

It's a big, big gap in capability.

I have a gigabyte oc ti here for the weekend that's going into a cousins build, been farting around with it and the dxr effects are very subtle to say the least. The only time they really stood out was the aerodrome map, a v1 exploded and the metal doors on one of the hangers illuminated with the blast. Besides that they're really not all that noticeable, even getting a reflection of yourself on the rotterdam map isn't as easy as you would think thanks to the weather effects and the map occasionally being brighter sometimes and duller at other times. For the massive frame rate hit you take it's honestly not worth the upgrade if that's the specific reason you're going for. 1080\1440 are reasonably playable if you mess with settings, but it also incurs the dx 12 "hitching" factor which makes the gameplay far from smooth, sometimes the game pauses for a second or so then resumes. When the tech matures it will be interesting, right now its just a massive gimmick and more of a checkbox feature. Also wtf is it with triple card fans and a sort of "WOOOwoooWOOOwooo" sound they do when under load? Bloody annoying.

Couple of 4k ultra settings screens showing framerate (empty server) and a reflection on a car.

Almost looks like those old 90s game cut-scenes (except back then the RT stuff was pre-rendered). Everything is now "SHINY SHINY! Look at your reflection in this table, this floor, this bald man's head... are you not impressed? Everything reflects everything!"

Hopefully by 2020 the novelty will have worn off and we won't have high gloss finishes on every carpet :p

Nice to see that even in the middle of a warzone, people still polish their cars and floors to a mirror shine :p

It's definitely been turned down quite a bit from the reveal footage, the v1 explosion reflecting looks nice but after you've seen it a few times there's not much else to see. Unless you want to crawl around maps prone looking for puddles or something.
