Hi peeps,
I'm not getting very good frame rates in BFV, gaming at 1440p.
Thought it might be time for a graphics card upgrade but in game the cpu is running at 100% with gpu only at 70%. So I guess it's more like time for a cpu etc upgrade?
I currently have an i5 2500k with 16gb of ram, I have o/c'd it a little (4.2) and that's all I'm comfortable doing.
Which Cpu should be aiming to get?
I'm thinking it's time for motherboard and ram also, so looking to spend about £500-£600.

Any suggestions most welcome :)

Hi

Intel option. I assume you have a decent aftermarket cooler ?

Not technically an i7 I guess as there is no Hyperthreading. It is 8 core/8 threads though.

Cheaper 1st gen Ryzen 8 core/16 thread. This would need a cooler as well if you don't have one. If you do then you will need an AM4 bracket as well.

Thanks Lee,
I might just be tempted by the AMD option, historically gone for Intel.
Is the Ryzen more power hungry than i7?
I mostly use PC for gaming btw :)

No Ryzen uses less power and also doesn't run as hot. The 1700X doesn't come with a cooler so you would need to buy one if you don't have one to reuse. And don't forget a bracket as well.

The R7 2700X bundle does have a stock cooler which is pretty decent. You probably don't need 8 cores for most games but obviously it will last longer than a 6 core Ryzen so I guess it is your call on that.

An R5 2600 (6 core/ 12 thread) and a B450 board such as a Gigabyte B450 Aorus Pro if you want the cheapest/cheaper option. This cpu also comes with a stock cooler.

Yes, it's an Antec 910. Quite happy to keep it as its got loads of fans!

I was running an R7 1700 on a B350 motherboard, then changed to an X370 motherboard and now changed to a 2700X with an X470 motherboard, all using an ASUS strix 1070 8gb, ran everything I threw at it perfectly fine, still using the same build now only im running a Vega64 instead since the prices came right down, everyday performance between AMD and Intel you wouldn't notice any difference, the only difference is the price.

I would be a little careful with that review, 2133 ram speed has a significant negative impact on Ryzen performance due to infinity fabric, 3200c14 is much better and it is easy to overclock the cpu a little.

Ah yeah good spot. Looks like it might even be a single stick as well, which would also impact performance on Ryzen.
