Installed a ssd into laptop and got everything onto it and in my computer it's showing now as the main drive. When I restart its going into Windows recovery. I change boot order in the bios but its still trying to boot into the old hdd which is now empty

There's a series of boot fix commands you can run that will either fix it or rule out an issue with the boot gubbins in widows.

  1. Unplug any secondary drives just leaving your new drive
  2. Boot from a windows installation DVD (or USB)
  3. At the Welcome screen, click Repair your computer
  4. Choose Troubleshoot
  5. Choose Command Prompt
  6. Make sure to change it from drive X to drive C
  7. type the following commands, allowing each to run its course before running the next command:
  8. bootrec /FixMbr
    bootrec /FixBoot
    bootrec /ScanOs
    bootrec /RebuildBcd

  9. Type exit
  10. Hit Enter
  11. Restart your computer

Thanks for your info - I have just upgraded my Samsung 250 SSD to a 500 and windows wouldn't load - after reading your reply I pulled the plugs on the other HDD and it fired up perfect - plugged other drives in one by one and everything is fine.

Thanks.
