Hey all,

A family friend recently left me a pair of B&W DM601 S1 speakers which he says are faulty.

I've tested them out today with my Yamaha R-N500 amp and it sounds like the tweeter is audible damaged on one of the Speakers. One speaker sounds clear and crisp with good bass, the other sounds muffled.

Is it possible to reliably test that it's actually the tweeter that's damaged. Speaker with the chip is the damaged tweeter one.

Any advice?

This helps plenty, didn't know where to start. Can't hear a single thing from the HF, definitely damaged.

Easiest will be to remove the bass speaker first and then take the tweeter out from the back. I think a quarter turn (or less) ant-clockwise removes it.

Good luck

swap, exclusively, the tweeter between speakers, to ensure it is not related to passive electronic components. ?
