I have bought the Crucial MX500 on Black Friday for my media PC so I can move the OS and programs from the mechanical drive to the SSD but the computer only has SATA 2 ports, will the SSD be a upgrade or a waste on the system?

I put an 840 evo SSD on my relic Q9550 of a desktop (sata 2) and gave it a new lease of life a few years back. Still works and its a lot faster now. Waiting for new ryzen platform to finally get an up to date pc.

It will still be noticeably faster and worth while..
The transfer speed over sata 2 is way faster than any mechanical drive could hope to achive, so any SSD will be able to utilise more of that extra bandwidth.
