I've been trying to reduce the latency when recording keyboard input to Sibelius for a friend. There's a bit of lag between the input and the playback of the sound through the speakers, which is incredibly distracting when there's multiple other instruments also playing back while adding to a new instrument.
I managed to knock the latency down from about 96ms to 42ms by playing with the Audio Engine Options in the settings and this has helped a lot, but I'm wondering if it can be better. The Sibelius site recommends using an ASIO option, which isn't available on the built in sound on the motherboard.
Can anyone recommend a good sound card for this?
Is the ASIO implementation likely to be better on a more expensive vs a less expensive card?
Can anyone who has used this setup advice how much of an improvement in latency this could provide?
