Just thought it might be interesting to share the work I'm doing currently to a spare set of lights from my Noble.

Basically, in years gone by there was someone who made custom housings for the Noble to hold LED Rings. Sadly not many sets were made and they're incredibly sought after but never come up for sale. I've decided to try and create my own by butchering a set of spare lights :D

Stock/Current rear lights;

Inspiration for changing them;

And onto the project...

Take a set of old lights which I'd never put on the car in their current condition (bought for the bulbholders and plugs)

Then cut/snap out all the bulb holder fittings and diffusers etc which essentially gives me a shaped plastic with the correct shape & mountings that I can work from;

Bought some Hella rings, 112mm inside and 98mm outer. On the inside will be brake/tail ring and fog/reverse insert. The outer will be reflector ring and indicator insert. Do have reservations about the differing sizes but as you can see from the first photo, when they're the same size the inboard light looks a little smaller anyway. Measure 101 times, cut once...

I've got some pipe also which has the same OD as the hole I cut, almost the same ID as the light. Next step is to cut the pipe to length (and fit the profile of the light) and put a backing on the end of it to mount the LEDs to. I've started cutting the second light hole also but due to the profile my holesaw isn't deep enough so waiting on a new one to be delivered currently.

Very much a work in progress but figured would be good to document somewhere and thought it might be of interest to people potentially - Plus if it goes well I can then lift and shift this into a DIY for other owners :D

Those Hella lights look familiar :o

Think the Noble pulls them off a little bit better than my Astra did :p

Note, I owned that car about 16yrs ago and that was cool back then, honest.....

Rounded, modified lights on cars that originally had fitted and shaped lights looks tragic.

Despite the modeo-esque appearance of the originals, they still look way better. I think it would be more impressive if someone made a kit that had LED Bars like the Mustang or something, but this just screams 1990's "Lexarse" lights to me!! Shame, as the car is cool.

It that sculpted rear end and turn up exhausts standard? Cos if so, they really did well there.

What about the "Sonata" lights? They look way cooler:-

Yeah it does make me think of the old moretti (sp?) light conversions back in the day lol :D

We'll see, the Noble isn't as bad as most as it has the blacked out centre grill anyway so it's extending that in a way - a better pic of the inspiration;

At the end of the day using standard lights it means I don't need to chop/change the bodywork and I can swap in/out stock lights at will. These lights were never going to be used on my car due to the clouding of the red section, they were bought purely for the bulbholders and plugs so even if I scrap it, the cost bar the led lights (which I could obviously sell on) is minimal.

Rear end shape is stock (larger wing end plates mind) and exhaust is a custom job but angled the way they are to allow the rear clam to pivot :)

Sonata lights were fitted to US Spec nobles from a Hyundai Sonata, sadly it is a lot of work to have them fitted and absolutely no going back lol - someone did it to one of the UK cars, here's an in progress pic of the fitting... Cost was about £2k iirc

Finally had a bit more time to get some more done on these last night, coming along well :)

Now have the 4 light housing pods made up. Next step is to gauge the depth for the lights and glue the pods into the stock lights and trim the pipes to sit flush with the stock lights

Are those the final cuts?

On the pipes? Just roughly cut to a length that lets me play with how it sits before trim it fully... Now I've got the backing plates glued to the pipes can fit the lights in the pods to gauge the depth (ideally I don't want any of the ring lights sitting proud of the original light shape) and will trim the pipes lower to the light, then the plan is to use filler to blend the pods in fully before painting it all satin black to match the rear grille of the Noble :)

Heavily caveat this with it may turn out horrendously in which case I'll sell on the LED lights and the only cost has been £20 of plastic/acrylic pipe (and a pair of my spare rear lights which were in bad condition anyway)

Also not sure if I mentioned but the plan will be to put these on 6 pin plugs and will stick the stock rear bulbholder plugs on a pair of 6 pin plugs also so they will be fully interchangable with stock rear lights :D

Filler has gone on now in huge excess, then the plan is to hopefully get it to a decent state with my horrific sanding skills and paint satin black :D Fortunately the satin black should hide a lot of sins... last of the lights/adapters should be turning up today too.

Isn't recessed too far in? I'd have it either flush with the edge of just slightly proud?

Quite probably, although I want it slightly recessed rather than flush or proud - though that said, if it's sitting too far in it's easy to space out, impossible to recess further back if it was too far out.

Due to the curve of the lights the outer light needs to be recessed heavily so it doesn't sit out at the side, for example the blue car I posted above, you can see the side of the light unit which is what I'm trying to avoid :) Also don't want one sitting flush with the other recessed heavily, rather try and recess them both.

Thought I had a pic of both light units fitted but sadly not so will grab one post the first lot of filler/sanding tonight.

Also need to wire in my 6 pin plugs I bought, step one is to wire the current stock lights into the 6 pin plug and then work out the wiring to match. Hesitant to start this whilst I'm still using the car every now and then mind...

Off topic, sorry but asking for a friend, know of anywhere to source or get made up a M12 Noble windscreen?

Nice, good effort

Thanks! To be honest I kind of expected to end up throwing these away at one point but really chuffed with how they're looking now. As I say want to do a bit more sanding/fillering but then I think the satin black will hide a lot of sins also :)

Thanks & no worries - There was a problem for the past year or so where there literally weren't any screens made up at all. However Pilkington have them made up now and Autoglass are starting to supply now. Part number as below if it helps;

Sorry, not buying into this at all. Looks a little cheap, although I guess it is in a way. The middle white bulb just looks like a ceiling GU10 halogen bulb. Make some proper LED light bars and Noble owners would be putting their fingers up your bottom to give you money.

The recess is going to hold water on it, which will then drop through the light aperture and on into the electrics. You've thought of this though, right?
