I love the consoles' ability to download stuff in low power mode. You can just queue up several games, put it to sleep and it will continue downloading overnight or whenever.

Can't get on with a pad for fps, I get the argument against the use of keyboard and mouse but wish Sony and Microsoft would make use of move controllers,
Tried it on the wii and once devs got the hang of it, it worked very well which gave better faster control and you could still slouch on the sofa

There was always going to be a tipping point and we have pretty much reached it. I have a 980GTX in my PC and it plays everything I want to play on my 27" Dell at Ultra 1440 resolution. I need no more and sure 60 frames would be nice but as I have not had it or used it, I am not someone who plays in anyway with skill and who is therefore easily pleased I see no point spending 1K on a GPU even though for me it's easier than most to splurge 1K on a toy, I don't feel the need.

@Housey I saw you bought a new GPU and 144hz Gsync monitor recently. What made you change your mind from your post here?

Surely it all depends on what your friends have? Playing with friends will vastly outweigh any exclusive. I've got both, while I'd like to play many Ps4 exclusives, I just haven't gotten round to playing any. I managed to get the pro on release day and I've put in around 10 hours into it, ultimate dust collector. Rest of the time I'm on the xbox with friends.

That being said, if all your friends play on the PC, then get a ps4. Great single player games.

Man, i thought i only started thinking the Pro was a dust collector recently, but back then! I've still not touched it haha. Really need to put it up on the MM soon.

PS4 exclusives wipe the floor with the XB1 ones, but the elite controller means that I get all multi platform games on the Xbox.

I have every console for the ps1 era up and am a massive Xbox fan boy but the ps4 exclusives do wipe the floor with Xbox this one I whole heartedly agree with. If I had to advise someone to get a console it would be a ps4 for this gen and the games but if you want backwards compatibility better looking games and want that extra power an Xbox one x is the way forward. And I have a switch too and it’s not powerful enough to replace either but it’s first party games are very well made

I've owned normal PS4, Xbox One Elite Hybrid, PS4 Pro and a switch from this gen.

switch is only good if you are going to use it's portability a lot of people say they will but never do. got a mate at work who bought one for when he was travelling and he's never taken it with him when he's away with work. he doesn't even use it now his niece does. i don't plan on taking mine on short trips but i may on long ones. however it's a great console for socialising. as in snipperclips, mario kart, mario party, smash bros. the games where 2-8 of you can all play together and it's simple and basic games. arms and boxing are great on it too.

xbox one x - dust gatherer unless you have to have 4k or like racing games. no point getting a normal one with the x now out IMO pointless even if you do only game at 1080p. 4k tv's are cheap as chips now. i used mine a handful of times before i eventually got rid of it. luckily didn't lose too much due to elite controller.

ps4 pro - best all round console due to exclusives and the fact more people own it. it will be easier to find online gaming friends. i know plenty who own a ps4 but only 1 who has an xbox one. IMO it's the one to buy. the switch doesn't suit your usage.

It's funny you say that as I haven't touched the PS4 or XB1 since the Switch came out.

Hey,

Due to the increasing cost of GPUs (£1200 for a 2800Ti? LOL no thanks) I've decided to make the jump to console gaming. But the last console I bought was a PS1 (really) so I have no idea about what to get and to be honest really anything about modern consoles.

My understanding is that it's between a PS4 and a XBox One (which are the same price) and then there's the PS4 Pro and the XBox One X (which still run the same games????).

Budget isn't really an issue, my TV is not 4K and I've not intention of getting a new one. I like sports sims (Golf / Ice Hockey / Football) and the usual action AAA's (COD lol).... what's my best option?

If you did want to PC game, take a look at - https://shadow.tech/gben/

I now use that and have a Nintendo switch. The shadow is absolutely amazing for the cost and will always be upgraded. Thought my PC gaming days were also over but no no no :)

I'm in two minds on getting rid of my gaming pc, had one since early 00's. Moving house later this year been promised a 65" 4k TV to go with my PS4 pro.
Only games I would miss is total war series.

Anyone gone from a PC gamer to a console gamer and not regretted it. Quite like my graphics but surely a nice 65" 4k TV would still make games look pretty good.

Again bakes look into shadow as well. I play on a 55" oled and can do 120hz at 1080p or 60hz in 4k. Use a roccat sova for mouse and keyboard. Haven't however touched the PS4 since i got a switch but have best of both worlds now

a nice 65" 4k TV costs bare minimum £1500 and that is 6-9 months after launch. at launch bare minimum is around £2K.

i use both. if you are playing anything competitive it has to be on pc. for single player games then it has to be xbox one x for 4k. ps4 pro is a middle ground but it does better due to better exclusives and the fact it's a better seller. more people buy sony consoles.

i would never get rid of my gaming pc. pc games are still cheaper and better in every regard. plus you can go up to 240 hz now on pc monitors. nvidia offering freesync support.

Looking at the Sony xf90 65" looks nice. Not a competitive player never entered any competitions.
I enjoy games that are fun and am currently being absorbed in good games sat on the sofa.
Will miss pc gaming with total war but that's it really, shame thought I'd never say that about being part of the master race. Could still come back to it in a few years once pricing and innovation get better.

This

My Xbox One has harldy been touched, i could get away with selling it as new if played it that little, Sony killed microsoft in this generation so PS4 all the way... but as rightly said abover the Switch is the one must own!

Funny that because im the other way around. Since getting my X in dec 2017 i havent touched my PS4.

The X is just a lot better. Exclusives are only worth it if they are games you are interested in and want to play.

99% of my game time is on cross platform .

I don't currently have a gaming PC, what I miss most are strategy games such as Total War or Starcraft etc.

I don't understand why these types of games can't be made available, a usb keyboard and mouse could work on a console, I even had a mouse on the ps1 for C&C.

I just suppose there isn't deemed enough demand for these types of games. It's a shame though as people go to great lengths to create elaborate racing sim setups on their consoles, so why not strategy games?

Good to know which one have you got?
I'll be going from a cheap 40" hd TV to a 65" so I hope I'll notice the difference.

got the 55" XF90 when it was £999 the 65" didn't come down in price when I was looking to buy (black friday) it was £1500 ish possibly £1600. I would have gotten the 65" had it come down to say £1300. I didn't think the additional 10 inches was worth paying 50% more for. Had it been an additional 30% like £1300 then yeah I would have gotten the 65" for sure.

My mate has the older model but higher up the XE9400 iirc which has 500 zones. the XF90 only has around 50-60 zones.

Looking at RTINGS reviews it places the XF90 on par with his tv. bare in mind his tv cost £3500 as it was only available in 75" and nothing else last year.

so for RTINGS to say the XF90 is on par with it is a huge thing due to the difference in cost and difference in FALD zones. it beats it in some things and loses in others but little in it.

if you do get it first thing you need to do it watch altered carbon on netflix on it. the HDR and colours are out of this world on the tv and that show. doesn't matter if you have already watched it. watching it again on the xf90 shows you what you missed out on before.
