I haven't built a new system for several years and starting to look the last few weeks has led me down a rabbit hole. I need some suggestions please.

I have to make it as discrete as possible (those are my orders...) - so no full tower and as quiet as possible.

I want to get the bare bones done to begin with and come back later for the monitor and graphics card. I have a 980 which will do me until i decide what to upgrade to.

Usage is mainly Adobe software primarily photoshop and lightroom but I do plan on gaming a fair bit.

My budget is roughly £1000 for

Case
Processor
RAM
Storage - Fast SSD for OS and large storage for library of photos
PS
Cooling solution
Wireless connectivity

So far I have the following:

you'll be looking at intel, Ryzen has caught up well with Prem Pro - well mainly due to adobe coding better but photoshop and lightroom still favour intel, specially Lightroom!

with £1k budget you should be able to squeeze in a GPU that easily beats the gtx 980

6 core/6 thread 9600k beats ryzen 2700x 8 core 16 thread

9600k slightly behind 2700x in Photoshop but 9700k does pull ahead- though overclock the 9600k to 5ghz all cores and will pull ahead again

Do you think the 9700k is that much better than the 9600k to justify the premium?

Depends on the work your doing. hopefully that article will help guide yourself. If its your bread and better in life then would choose the best you can get for your budget . Gaming wise will last a bit longer due to extra 2 cores.

tried to keep it in theme of corsair

My basket at Overclockers UK:
