Ok , if you say so.

Maybe they're unemployed because they gamble rather than the other way around?

I don't say say so, it's fact.

In fact it's worse than that, if going by the governments own numbers. I was being conservative. Source: "BRIEFING PAPER Number 7096, 31 August 2018 Poverty in the UK: statistics"

Maybe they gamble because they dont have a future (perceptually or factually), maybe they can't stop, maybe pigs ******* flew in David Cameron's initiation ceremony, who nows.

There are 3 million people currently in employment but not having enough money to live off of, a chunk of them will undoubtedly gamble, regardless it's irrelevant how many people do it. In terms of addictive and legal things to do, it is the least social and potentially the most damaging to society (in terms of class/wealth/social strata cohesion, especially in times of an asset stripping government/Brexit).

I just want stricter regulations on the visibility of the shopfronts (invisible would be preferable, like cigarettes) and better controls on online ones (i know you can set limits yourself, but it's not exactly amazing), as obviously if it was just downright illegal it'd just mean criminal's take the profit instead. Considering the recent regulations put forward on the machines (in April?) it would appear government is in agreement with further controls.
I don’t kno exactly what it is you want her to do? She abides by all the laws and regulations. It’s not her fault if they don’t go far enough for you.

You talk as though she should just give all her profit away, keeping just enough to live in a nice little semi detached somewhere.

She can keep as much as she wants, i don't give a damn what she does, i'm far more interested in the people defending her/the rich/broken social system. Against their own interests long term, if the country does indeed collapse at some point into some filthy socialist hell, the super rich are safe, it's everyone in the middle that are going to be targeted.

/yeah i went potato quality argument.

Where in that document does it talk about gambling?

The fact that you say you’re interested in the people defending her, surely means you think she’s done something wrong otherwise she wouldn’t need defending.

Her company pays the salary of 4,300 people, her company has also paid hundreds of millions in tax to the UK government, yet you're complaining that she's personally wealthy as well? She deserves to be wealthy, she's giving thousands of people a livelihood and paying vast sums to the UK government which pay for the services you use. You should be worshiping the ground she walks on for the contribution she's made to the UK instead of taking the typical leftie approach of hiding your jealously behind "inequality".

It is relevant to the claim you made above the post you're quoting.

In terms of addictive and legal things to do, it is the least social and potentially the most damaging to society (in terms of class/wealth/social strata cohesion, especially in times of an asset stripping government/Brexit).

I dunno about that, I suspect some drug addicts might disagree.

Her company doesn't have any shop fronts. You made a claim about her making an obscene amount of money from addicted probably poor morons who then get repaid in the form of benefits.

That’s sadly what it comes down to, pure jealousy.

Lol, i ain't jealous, i'm just stating truth's. I have ways out (family abroad) of any mess created by said inequality, i'm dandy. But you're so impressively blind to what the inequality will do to this country it's hilarious.

You don't see me getting all uppity against Branson or Mike Ashley for their wealth acquisition do you, maybe its because they're products only harm other countries. But you keep digging that hole, i'll get what i want in the end ( ;) ), i am not blinkered by some blinding light of patriotism that seems to keep some on here warm at night.

A few thousand millionaires dotted around the country are going to cause some mass uprising? Get real.

It's not so much giving people a livelihood as it is using and exploiting others to make money for herself. Running a business is based on this paradigm and I don't think it's particularly an issue in and of itself, but it does get to a point where the level of inequality becomes obscene.

The Coates family named as UK's second biggest taxpayers - and this is how much they paid

https://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/new...6Pv97ILUCxBhn1_Nd8n-J1R5ZDRk0srV6HANSN5GLasdU

I was going to post about this.

HM Revenue and Customs also hit the jackpot with gambling entrepreneur Denise Coates, who paid £99million on her £220million salary.

The 51-year-old, who comes in at No2 on the list compiled by The Sunday Times, turned her father's chain of bookies into the online giant Bet365.

Reportedly, she could have kept £15million of her tax bill if she had opted to take her salary as a dividend.

So that's nearly a 50% tax bill and she paid £15m that could have been easily dodged.

I don't think anyone is worth that kind of money but you can't accuse her of not doing her bit for the country. If we could plug the loopholes that the morally bankrupt multinationals and other big earners exploit to their own advantage the government would have a lot more money to invest in public services.

Their business so why not. This is free enterprise.

I know plenty of people who have taken massive gambles to make businesses to succeed for which most of us would never think of doing. Some have borrowed and remortgaged to the point of insolvency and losing their families. Some sadly fail but to those that succeed then good luck to them.

There's always people that are prepared to bring down the rich guy running his own business. "For the Many, not the few".. but it's the few that have taken these gambles and offer employment to many, in some cases there are charitable benefactors and well as government table income..

Be careful who's rug you pull out from under their feet.

Indeed, she provides a facility for people to place bets online and that seems to have triggered people, the publicity has resulted from the fact that she does pay her share of taxes, this thread perhaps wouldn't even exist if she'd instead chosen to squirrel it away via some offshore entity or perhaps decided to go live in Monaco or the Isle of Mann etc... Apparently she's bad because some other firms with shops have fixed odds betting terminals or something.

I think the anger is rather misplaced, it was only just over a decade ago that we and taxpayers in various other countries had to bail out the finance industry (granted not every business in that industry was involved in what happened), plenty of people who might have otherwise had their businesses or careers ruined are now very wealthy still today.

Plenty of people in the city dodge tax via all sorts of means, a company I worked for had all sorts of entities to pay people efficiently (pretty much everyone there could legitimately claim to be a "partner" in some entity or other), the company one of my friends worked for at the time also did they got in trouble when various trader's WAGS were extended "loans" from some offshore entity (It is perhaps a bit hard to justify how a part time model, hairdresser, yoga instructor, whatever etc.. is supposed to pay back a 7 figure sum). Another friend of mine was, on paper at least, a second hand car dealer, while he's traded various things over his career in the city cars aren't one of them.

Anyway, posted this in the 10 year challenge thread:

I really hate stories like this....

Is she performing? Yes. Are they continuing to grow? Yes. Did what I presume is a board sign off on this? Almost certainly.

It's their business, simple. Nothing but jealousy drives debates/stories like this. And yes of course it's an obscene amount of money.

Agreed.

If the person, in question is doing a great job. Then why shouldn't they receive big monies.

Cant please some people...

yep I was about to post the same thing, it may go some way into explaining the lax regulation such as e.g. age enforcement only been done on cash payout instead of cash depositing.

The fact she isnt dodging tax like other millionaires I will give her some leeway tho, as I hate tax dodgers.
