Quick question has anyone updated the Bios on the motherboard yet? As i am still running 0430 when it was delivered to me, see its on version 1412, i have not had any issues with the PC. Would updating the Bios lose any of the overclock settings/stability?

I’ve not bothered tbh. Sure I read on these forums that 8pack’s rule of thumb is unless you are trying to fix a problem then leave ur bios version alone.

Ok cool thanks, just looking on the Asus forms looks like its improved OC stability and lowering voltages.
it depends on where you are coming from. A few months ago there was a BIOS released following the Spectre story, this severely borked overclocking capabilities. It might be that those who have experienced improvements could be comparing it to that BIOS version rather than a faster, earlier one.

Unfortunatly i did have to update my bios due to an issue i was having with Bluetooth. The updated bios fixed to issue - but i did lose all the overclock settongs.

I have an Asus Strix z390-e mobo - although this should be very similar to the standard Mobo which comes with this build.

Below are the notes I have from OcUK - but it only gets me to 4.7Ghz, not 5ghz,

in the bios

under the ai / extreme tweaking section (should be one or the other)

avx instructions - 3

cpu core ratio - sync all cores

1 core ratio limit - 50

cpu svid support - disabled

min cpu cache ratio - 44

cpu core / cache volts - manual

cpu voltage override - 1.33

cpu vccio - 1.10

cpu system agent - 1.10

head back up to the external digi and power, tap enter to go into that menu

load line calibration - lvl 6

current capability - 130%

in the main boot section (to the right)

set up the csm

basically set the options to enable csm

and be sure the options below are set to uefi first, or uefi and legacy or just uefi

(the options are phrased a little differently but mean the same thing across mobos.

these settings should get you back up an running at 5ghz :)

oh and dont forget to enable xmp profile on the main "easy mode" page!

Can any of you please share which settings you have in your BIOS so i can get my rig back to 5Ghz?

Wow, very thorough and very useful, thank you so much.

So it looks like you also have avx instructions set to 3. In my case I have a standard speed of 4.7ghz with a turbo of 5Ghz. However when i run prime32 and zcore my cpu is only getting to 4.7ghz.
I could change the avx instruction to 0 or auto and that would get me to 5ghz - but also with a turbo of 5ghz. I am just not sure that that is the correct approach.

I think you can also disable AVX in prime32 which will see the CPU hit the top speed. The AVX is set to ensure if you are heavily using it the CPU wont throttle to much as it will get hotter quicker. with it set to windows reports mine to be running at 4.9Ghz pretty much all the time. Running HWmonitor while i game, the cpu also runs at that speed as well.

How is everyone going with there systems here? Mines still running great ive just added extra storage and playing well at 1440p in all of the titles that i currently play. Thinking Flight Sim 2020 will give this system a run for its money.

Mines running great - no issues whatsoever. Its been running RDR2 great (once they sorted out the release bugs) although I still spend most of my time on PUBG lol.

Added a Noble Chairs Epic AMG version to my setup which I am really loving.

I dunno. I found mine a little stiff to start with but got used to it now and like the higher back and neck support. I haven't bothered with any of the cushions yet. I have a £900 chair at work and even that wasn't comfortable to start with.

@P1Fanatic - what temp does your 1080Ti hit when under high load? Over the last 2 weeks I've had a couple of games crash and noticed my GPU hit 80°C and 100% load at exactly the time the game closed each time.
80C isn't usually enough for instability to crop it's head. 80C was pretty standard for plenty of 1080Ti's..Might be worth giving the fans & heatsink fins a little clean though. Can't hurt!

Started using flight sims and with the additional scenery seems 16GB ram is starting to becoming a limitation, think I need to go to 32GB what you think is the best option from below my understanding was to keep 2 two DIMMs for the overclock stability?

Should I keep the 16GB installed and get another set of this which according to my invoice is what's currently installed https://www.overclockers.co.uk/team...l-kit-rgb-black-tf1d4-my-08m-tg.html#comments , or get the Patriot Viper Steel 32GB https://www.overclockers.co.uk/patr...dual-channel-kit-pvs432g320c6k-my-106-pa.html
