Hey All,

Was working on some kit today which involved moving some VMs around due to an old server being removed for power issues.

The server where the VMs resided had a pair of Xeon 5160 (2006) and the newer server a single E5506 (2009), while moving the VMs I decided to do a quick compare and noticed that there isn't much difference between the CPUs, in fact the older CPU had better single core performance score and higher L2 cache :D

The 5160`s are in a HP DL380 G5 while the single E5506 is a HP DL380 G7.

What are peoples thoughts on this :D

At work, we still use a PowerEdge 2950 that I installed shortly after I started working here. November 2007. Yep, 12 years later, it's still trucking. It's just used as warm storage of old company files.

The main server is a PowerEdge R515 with a pair of slow-ass 6 core Opterons.

My thoughts are to stop using cpuboss, the way they rank it is well out of wack due to combining various scores from single/multi thread across various different tests

Depends on workload but newer processor seems better for a VM environment given same 80w TDP, 100% more cores, 33% lower clocks which results in a 50% higher multi threaded score.
