On the road....
Adrian Flux, guaranteed value (£6500) albeit with a 7500 p/a mileage limit (not a problem, I do less than that) although I'm going to change come renewal after they messed up my renewal which ended up costing me more than it should have to put my add-ons back on (protected NCB, breakdown cover etc) not to mention I've had considerably cheaper quotes elsewhere.

Got some shocking good prices from Direct Line last year. Now all my personal insurance is handled by them. Will keep an eye on the renewals though as I'm sure they'll creep up. Home & contents + two cars, all easily accessible through one web portal.

That’s interesting. We've moved away from Direct Line for quite a number of products over the last couple of years. Only thing we have is house insurance now. We found that their car and landlord insurance premiums went up quite a lot recently. As a loyal customer I wasn't impressed.

I assume companies like confused have a deal with the insurance companies that they can search their databases, I mean that's obvious right otherwise how else would they search?

I just renew each year with Aviva these days, i know how much i expect my car insurance to be, i know what a reasonable price is, and i like their online interface/dashboard where i can edit everything without ever calling them.

I use comparison sites, call the top three, ask for better, speak to specialist brokers.
Then whoever gives me best quote or best price and best service combination, I then pay for in full.

The SVR cost me £780 this year, M3 is circa £450 with a declared value much higher than book and the Clio was about £200.

when you ask for better on average how much have they given off if anything?

i use comparison sites i used to also check the ones not on comparison sites but stopped doing that as they were never cheaper and waste of time for 1 quote.

so now i use 3-4 comparison sites and usually it's the same names at the top with slightly differing prices.

First year ever that my renewal has gone down....just not by much.

Ended up using Compare Meerkats and getting a £200 cheaper quote with Quote Me Happy.

i changed 2 of my policies over to them. they seem to be doing really good deals these days.

My renewal for the last 2 years has been cheaper than any quote I've obtained elsewhere (comparison sites and those not on them, i.e. Direct Line etc.). Still phoned up and haggled further, mind :D

It's up next month, so will see if that trend continues for another year.

Comparison website usually, go for the lowest and pay by instalments over the year.

But might try a few tricks in this thread this year as my insurance is coming to an end next mth.

Mind you living in a part of London that’s rampant for car crime usually makes me pay well over the odds for my insurance. Funnily enough in the 4 yrs I’ve had my car, it hasn’t been touched.

Just jinxed yourself...

Renewal £530 with A-plan. Got it down to £465 after quoting a confused search of £430 with AXA (needing things adding to match)

Went with a broker for the first time last year. £279 instead of around £500.

Renewal came out the same this time with an increase in milage from 8k to 12k. Didn't even bother doing a comparison. It's good cover (reasonable excess, protected no claims, courtesy car, etc.) for a fair price.

For the car I use comparison sites. For the bike my renewals are normally a good ten or twenty quid cheaper than the best a comparison site can get me so I just stick with it, if they don't mess me around then I'm happy to offer some loyalty.
