Sums up the UK car market really, always style over substance. Interestingly in Germany cars tend to be lower trim levels but much higher optioned.
Spit also said that they wanted to go for the more powerful engine over options. I'd probably do the same if the budget was tight.

Whist I agree that too many people just choose the bling spec, clearly Spit wants a sporty looking car with a good amount of power.

Really don't see what there is to get annoyed about. Would you have chosen the slower car just so you could get some fancy bits inside?

Think I've borked mine. Still got a noise at speed, think I might have done a front suspension leg and ANOTHER tyre. I hate pot hole Britain.

It’s slowly changing, but 5-10 years ago it was always SE with every option and very few Sport models.

There are many more Sport models than in the past now, but still more SE dripping with spec.
Germans seem to buy cars for themselves, not for the neighbours ;)

Yes that was my thinking. I often find that I never use options anyway but the engine was important to me.

I would have liked the full digital IC but not at the extra cost.

For the first time in about 5 years I will own my own car tomorrow. I have bought my old mans 'old' Mercedes from him. It is a C250d AMG Line Premium Plus and it is under 3 years old. He has today had the front brakes changed and it has had a full service. It had done under 50k miles (from memory, last I knew it was 47k). I know it will not be everyones cup of tea being a diesel and all, but I am really looking forward to it. Shall post pics when I get it. When my dad got it he had the paint protected too which is great for me, and that still has a 5 year warranty.

Of course he has only sold it to me as he bought a Volvo V70 R... I have got a great deal, but god I love that Volvo!

Yikes, just got the service light pop up and it's an "A" service. Whilst i'll probably go to my local garage i checked the price on the MB website and got quoted £585 of which £400 of that being for

Automatic transmission: Carry out oil and filter change (Transmission 724.0) £389.52

What on earth is involved in that?

For reference it's a 2012 B Class

https://www.classicandsportscar.com/news/want-rowan-atkinsons-mercedes-benz-500e-silly-question

Rowan Atkinson is selling his 500E for anyone wanting some bruiser Merc.

A nice story is he bought it off a good friend, one of the lads I go to the Ring with each year. Obviously when enquiring he doesn't use the name Rowan Atkinson so you can imagine the surprise when my mate heard a knock at the door to open it to Mr Bean. He also went to see (a now dead sadly) friend afterwards who had serviced the car for my friend to check out its history. He was at the time building an old Porsche 906. Mr Bean turns up, spots the old rebuild in the corner and spends a long time just going over the details. True petrolhead.

It is that price "because Mercedes". The dealerships are extremely expensive for all work like this.

The specialist i use in Berkshire (genuine specialist, not just a garage who pretend to be) charge iirc around £150 for a box fluid change which is about the right level if you read around online.

Picking one up tomorrow, if my mechanic mate gives me the nod that is.

It's a facelift C Coupe, they are all less than 12 months old?! Can't imagine there are any outside of the dealer network or manufacturers warranty so sending a mechanic to look at it as if its a 15 year old one sounds a bit OTT :D

He’s my mate, and we’re armed with a paint scanner ;)

So yesterday I drove to my usual county park to walk the dog, was out for about 90 minutes and came back to see that some ***** has done this to my car and driven off with no note:

So it looks like the metal bodywork is unscathed, but the plastic front bumper is all one piece and will need replacing

There's no CCTV, so I've got nobody to claim from, and though I have 11 years no claims bonus, I had a £21,000 claim on my last car with a cyclists who rode in to me (long story) which only has about 18 months left to run before I can tick the 'no accidents in the last 3 years box' when getting insurance quotes, so another claim now would just be the nail in the coffin.

I'm pretty ignorant about bodywork/repairs

A) What am I looking at for a brand new W213 AMG Line bumper? I can't seem to find brand new ones for sale, which is a bit worrying.

B) Do they come in black and need spraying to the colour of the car? It's Contract Hire and came with some stupidly expensive 'designo diamond white bright' paint

Car is only 4 months old, so I do want to repair it to Mercedes standards, but I'm looking to avoid Mercedes prices.
