Well this is exactly the sort of program that can and really ought to be commercially funded, there is no reason for stuff like East Enders to be funded by license fees ditto to most ofter successful BBC productions, pretty much all their prime time TV, all of Radio1, Radio2 etc..

They already have a commercial arm for worldwide distribution of their product, I don't see why they can't have a commercial arm here too and just silo off say the news, the world service and a few others areas as the part of the corporation that is directly funded by the state from taxation.

And to your point - clearly EastEnders has been running for decades without an expensive set like that and I suspect most TV shows don't have anything like it.

I wish they would commercialise their news and current affairs as with the exception of shows like 'this week' their political coverage is dire. Question time and the big questions make you want to scratch your eyes out.

I'm happy to fund the BBC for their arts and drama output. If I ruled the world I scrap that tripe Eastenders, but it keeps my mum happy.

Im sure this has been said before and I know why they won't do it (they would drop too many no doubt).

Just supply a code when you pay for it and put that code in on TV/Iplayer! For all newer TVs and going forward obviously.

A unique code for every household. Easy traceable when sharing but could you imaging someone cracking it and making a keygen for it.

Just had £100 refund from TV license because having reached grand old age of 75 I get it free.
Why is it that when you buy they want you to pay online or card or Paypal but when they send it back it comes as a cheque.
To pay it in my bank I now have a 20mile car trip to park and ride - then another 20 minute bus ride which drops me right out side my nearest bank (all local ones have shut down) and repeat trip backuds.

All is not lost though - I can walk down the road to the PO and pay it in there but that's not the point is it.- one other good thing with the PO they sell cracking sausage rolls

Nice to have a £100 back in budget account - seems over the last few years more is coming out than going in.

Who do you bank with? Lloyds' smartphone app allows you to pay in by taking a picture of the cheque.

As to what to spend the £100 on, put it towards a Gucci belt?

Post it to your branch with a letter asking them to deposit into your account? If you use your bank's mobile app some of them let you pay cheques in by taking a photo of it too.

I'm with Starling Bank and all I need to do if I get a cheque is pop it in the post with "Freepost Starling" on the envelope.

I got one last week from an old employee sharesave scheme I was in.

But wait, I bet you're going to tell us you have a half an hour drive to the nearest post box too.

Send it back to them, with a letter informing them that you do not accept cheque and only accept paypal or bank transfer

Whilst not immediately helpful to your question: make sure the direct debit is cancelled so you don't have the same problem next year
