hi guys,

I am looking for some advice on upgrades for a friend.

A budget of around £1500 - £1700 at a push.

Primary use of rig for gaming / streaming with the odd bit of video editing.

Screen is a candidate for upgrade, currently has a cheap 24”1080p monitor.

Current rig;
i5 6600k
16GB RAM
AMD RX480

Where would the money be best spent ?

You've got two methods of streaming - CPU based which most are ; this is either of one PC or Two .

Second option is GPU.

https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/geforce/news/geforce-rtx-streaming/

Latter could be used with current rig and a second screen - G-sync enabled and 144hz to allow fast gamepkay for yourself and current monitor as 2nd screen for chat and other apps etc (dual screen set up)

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £988.98 (includes shipping: £0.00)

Above would allow you to game at 1440p as welll, this would be less stress on the CPU when gaming at higher Res. When streaming knock down to 1080p or carry on at 1440p and set to stream at 1080p .

Gives you cash to save for Ryzen 3000 , which would help with video editing , core count increase and speed boost.

Option two if you can't wait .

Top of budget and a screamer ! Stream via cpu or GPU

Thanks for the suggestions so far, I have told him that I don’t think he needs to outlay so much just now but he’s adamant he wants to spend so just looking to get best bang for buck. The option of i7 and rtx 2080 does not look bad.

Yeah I’m gonna order it for him now, that the best mobo to go for too?

Can take budget further if needs be

Aorus Pro WiFi... If he needs WiFi .. also has better audio and is 12+1 VRM set up Vs 10+1 .

WiFi is AC 1300 standard, so if they happen to have latest BT Hub, sky's upgraded one or Virgin the max WiFi transfer speeds :)
Also has Bluetooth for Xbox and phones etc

Don't need the WiFi then Aorus elite is £20 cheaper

I'd personally grab an RTX 2080/Ti and an X34P or an Alienware ultrawide.
I don't think at that resolution the 6600k would be too much of a bottleneck.
I'd definitely want to move away from a cheap 1080p screen and monitors always seem to survive much longer than GPUs.

Processor seems fine for now. With Ryzen probably going to make a splash, I think holding tight on upgrading processor etc isn't a bad shout.
