Herman Miller - Aeron Remastered vs Mirra 2

I am desperately in need of replacing my extremely old 'office world' style executive chair, which having had a spinal operation last year is doing my back absolutely no good at all!

I have spent quite a while researching and have narrowed down my choices to two - the Aeron and Mirra. I sat on an Aeron in my local John Lewis today, found it really comfortable, but sadly they don't stock the Mirra.

I've discounted other options including HumanScale etc, have decided on one of the Herman Millers. I have some lower back pain around the sacrum, so happy to spend out for something decent. I'm just under 180cm and 105kgs (sadly a result of not being able to exercise with a mullered back).

So, if you were choosing between the Aeron Remastered & the Mirra 2, which would you choose and why?

I have a Mirra 2 and, from what I read, it's the equal of the Aeron in every way and the price difference is simply because the Aeron is a product with a massive reputation and therefore can be sold at a premium. The Mirra 2 isn't a compromised product and does everything the Aeron does, afaik.

Onto the next thing - before buying the Mirra 2, I sat in an Aeron in John Lewis and, like you, found it comfortable. Once I purchased the Mirra 2, it quickly became apparent that the mesh isn't really that comfortable when compared to a decent foam padding. So, here I am, typing while sitting on a Mirra 2, with a cheap pillow on the seat and a cheap pillow on the back (because the lumbar adjustment bar is rock hard). The chair is now extremely comfortable in the way I have it but I shouldn't need to put pillows on a £600 chair. If I could go back, I'd buy a product with foam on it.

EDIT to add - the Mirra 2 is a truly well-made product and, if you like the mesh, you won't go wrong if you buy one.

@mulpsmebeauty Thanks for the reply and info! I tried the Human Scale freedom which was padded, but it didn't feel anywhere near as comfortable as the Herman Miller. I shall give it more thought

I like the mesh. I sit in an Aeron all day 5 days a week in my office. Most often in shorts. Have done for about 5 years. It really comes into it's own when it's warm.

I've popped to a specialist shop this morning, tried both the Mirra and the Aeron. I also tried the Embody and it ended up becoming a decision between the Embody and the Aeron.

I got a great deal on an Aeron remastered, with the posturefit support, should be delivered next Monday

Excellent choice, used an Aeron at work for a number of years and absolutely love the chair.

Picked up a humanscale freedom for the home office and love that too though

Do you think these type of chairs, are good for relaxing and watching TV etc. Or are they more for good posture and sitting up straight?

The Aeron has a great recline feature, which you can adjust the resistance of. I find it very comfortable and will recline back if watching YouTube or similar. It might look a little out of place in a living room though.

Can you lock it in the recline? And also does the base part (the bit you sit on) recline as well?

To be honest these chairs if you get one refurbished on Ebay, do look like good value eg. they will not fall to pieces in a few years and will actually last.

BUT, I am not sure if they are what I am looking for, which is a relaxing chair to recline on etc. But then also the ergonomic features are good as I do have a slightly dodgy lower back.

The base of the seat does recline a bit - in my case enough to lift my feet off the floor by about an inch - but the majority of the recline is through the seat back. It's designed so that you can introduce movement whilst sat down in an office environment.

The best thing to do is to try one out - if you have a John Lewis near you, you may find you can find one in store to try. If you are near London, I bought mine from Back2 - got a great service and amazing deal from them. Speak with Ted
