Hello, my project is to create a pc case that looks like a Diablo 3 inventory chest.

chest.jpg

The inner frame is a mixture of wood and 3d printed plastic parts.
The outer shell will be 3d printed sanded/smoothed and then moulded and cast in resin.

The components are a mixture of old and new.
Motherboard Asus Micro ATX B85M-G
Processor intel I7 4770
Gigabyte 1660Ti windforce
Sampsung 500SSD
Corsair SF450 Platinum
32 GB corsair DDR3 1600
1 ML140 140mm PWM Premium Magnetic Levitation Fan
1 Air Series™ AF120 Quiet Edition High Airflow 120mm Fan

Challenges
  • Only use the bottom side and one small side for air flow I/O.
  • Keep the size as small as possible with the hardware available.
  • Silent
  • Medium to good cooling.
  • 3D print the case.
Previous Experience
Fusion 360 designing and 3D printing are new to me but I have some experience in 3d modelling.
And I have built my 3 pcs I owned, but never my own case. I also have good experience in miniature modelling and painting. Never done custom cables which I want to do.

I was a bit eager to start and printed some brackets,

But I went back to the drawing board.

The frame now has 2 steps on 3 of the sides so the frame can slide into the outer shell and sit inside the outer shells lip.

Still to do in Modelling
:
  • Model the top part of the chest.
  • Re-model the side of the outer shell that hosts the fan and PSU.
  • Model the I/O ports that will be attached to the outer shell 2- USB /1 HDMI/ 1 Display port/ 1 Eithernet port. A USB 3 Port will be in one of the key-locks.
  • Figure out if I Can easily remove the front side of the outer shell for display.
Additional work
  • 3D printing
  • Casting the outer shell
  • Custom cables
  • Attach Blue LED Strip on the base of the wooden frame.
What I would like to ask is this:
  • Do you see any possible problems in the build?
  • Is the cooling sufficient? With the two fans?

The fan on the bottom is static 140 mm the one on the side is an airflow fan 120mm.
Any feedback info appreciated.

Interesting build! It's ambitious and different :)

Personally I'd be a little concerned about dead spots where there is no air flow near the top. Warm air can collect, and as the graphics card is sourcing its air from above that's a bit risky. I wonder if you can leave some small vent space, maybe near the back and sides, and use both fans as intake? This should push air out of the vents.

hmm thanks, so should both fans be static ?
I am working on the lid, once its done I will look for vents.
My sentiment is that pressure-optimised fans will perform better anywhere there is restriction. So they will help push enough air in that it has to escape somewhere. In reality though, air flow and heat is a very analog/organic thing and every case is different. It's worth experimenting, with airflow direction at the very least. My quietest PC is a cube shape with two intake fans on top, and one exhaust at rear.

I have adjusted the case and have started printing, Each piece takes about 12 hours to print.

I am hoping to attach the motherboard by the end of the week.

Love the concept behind this case, will be keeping an interested eye on it to see how it turns out. have a couple of friends who are mad on D3 and I'm sure they'd love a case like this.

look forward to see how you get on. did you come to a conclusion about the cooling and fan / vent placement? You may be able to get away with just vents in the bottom but as previously suggested have both fans as intake to try and blow hot air out of the case (I suspect that if you have 1 intake and 1 outtake fan then you will have channelling where much heat gets trapped and the intake air takes the shortest path to the outtake fan.

Yeah I don't follow too many builds due to updates on the popular ones, but this one was a really different implementation,if a little overly 'printed' but once your designed and printed each joint type the design type would have come into its own for even more elaborate constructions..
