Just realised that I’ve had a deposit on an amp for a month and haven’t got around to selling a guitar to be able to pay off the balance :o

Selling my current amp on reverb.com hasn’t proved fruitful so I’ll have to chuck it on gumtree. Sad times.

I just bought one... Maxon 808 reissue, as I've given up trying to get the TS clone I built to sound right (it was the first pedal I built and I think I didn't do such a good job)...

Happy with it so far :) sounds great as a light drive with my strat but also sounds great driving the amp with my LP

Have been getting back into things realising I've been living life in some rubbish reality where I'm not awesome at guitar.

I definitely have some raw ability to duplicate as I have picked up things relative quickly - a long way to go to being at my best. It’s pleasing how quickly it comes back.

Decided to try and do the Tornado of Souls solo, which is just ridiculous and way out of my league... but what strange notes. I’ve never played a solo before that has made me go ‘huh these licks are really weird’ - particularly those string bends. Such oddness. I guess that’s what makes it unique. Great!

Yeah, Marty Friedman has some influence from non western music and he tends to do quite a lot of subtle articulations to mimic certain phrasing you might here in Japanese or Indian music. Lots of little slides into and out of bends or microtonal stuff. Hard to replicate precisely, but good fun. I never got around to really nailing Tornado of Souls - the ending part of that solo is a beast. Would love to hear your take, as there seems to be a lack of actual playing in this thread - it's all gear chat! :) I had a bash at Lucretia a while back, which is one of my faves:

Excellent

I went to see a Megadeth tribute the other month (Megadeth UK) and it made me realise just how good the Megadeth solo's are.
When people ask about "Who are your favourite twin lead players?" the answers are always the same like Thin Lizzy, Wishbone Ash, Priest etc but I now always say Megadeth.

That was incredible! You have major talent bro :)

Ha I'm pleased enough to be fumbling through the right notes. I may try and upload something in a few months when I'm not still in noob mode... but it will not be tornado of souls, I'll break the internet :p :(

That was sick man, really good!

Update on the Master of Puppets solo... I'm getting there I think, can confirm that if you keep gradually practicing and increasing speed eventually the licks start to sound right... it's made me examine my right hand picking technique quite hard :p

Great stuff mate, Marty has always been in my top 3 soloists, along with Nuno and Dimebag. Mustaine and Hetfield for rhythm

Nuno is another one of those guitarists with weird notes a his tapping in particular sounds really unorthodox. I actually think Nuno is an absolutely incredible rhythm guitarist. Those riffs are hard as nails!

Listening to the Pornograffiti album now. I really think Nuno is an A+++ guitarist trapped in a C+ band. Great funky music but lyrically it just leaves me so cold.

Thanks man - of course it's much easier sitting in my room doing that than doing it for real on stage in front of people, for various reasons it's been a while since I've had to 'perform' to an actual audience. So I have way more respect for guys like yourself out gigging it on a regular basis.

And completely agree re Megadeth - particularly that line up. I was fortunate to see them on both the Rust In Peace and Countdown tours and they were killer live back then. That Dave/Marty combo was just the best, but Nick Menza really lifted that band to another level on drums.

Cheers dude. You totally should. I really enjoy the rhythm playing in Tornado actually, it's some of their best I think. That whole album is just a high point.

It's a tricky one - I always did it with a bit of legato tbh as it never sat very well for my picking technique.

Pretty much a perfect summary of how I feel - Nuno is an insanely talented player. How he does any of that stuff so accurately live with the guitar slung down at his knees I'll never know! But yeah, never really got Extreme that much. I seem to remember preferring that Three Sides album more than anything else, but it's many years since I've listened to them.

Mustaine's Rhythm work is amazing , such a talented songwriter. ive seen them 11-12 times sinse 1990 and nothing touches the RIP line up, i do like the current line up mind Kiko is another incredible guitarist ,

Baton Rouge Guitars, Anyone got/played one?

I've seen them about in youtube videos,
They seem reasonable, good for fingerpicking (which I mostly do)

No where seems to have stock of them near me, and the one place that could get me one want me to commit to buying :/

I was wondering if anyone had any hands on time with one?
They seem pretty good for their price point. But I'm hesitant to get one if I cant play first.

(Edit because I missed out the most important part of my post, the guitar haha)

We have a digital Presonus desk that has 6 outputs that can feed headphones so all 5 of us plus the sound man can have our own mixes.
If I'm not happy I can signal him from the stage, point at whatever to go up and down, he can switch to what I'm hearing, make adjustments and press the Save button.
I use Soundmagic E10s and I have a superb mix, on Saturday I tried my expensive triple driver Fidue A38s but in that environment they made no difference in quality.

On the last two gigs the drummer decided to use her Roland TD25 electronic kit and it's the first time I've heard a decent electronic kit but it is coming through a 3000 watt PA system.
The problem is because they are silent they need to come up more in my mix but we also have two monitors on stage that pushes a bit of sound out.
Up until a month ago I was going direct into the PA with two Roland keyboards and my Roland GR55 guitar synth but every now and then my in-ears come loose and I'm playing with no foldback so hoping I'm hitting the right notes.
I decided to buy a Laney AH300 which has 5 inputs for my gear but I only use it as a monitor, so my headphone output goes into the amp and then I come out of the amp headphone socket into my in-ears and I have the Laney on a low output which means if my in-ears come loose I've got a monitor.
The headphone output goes into a Behringer P2 which is a little amp that clips to my belt (yes I like it loud).

This setup also means we can have a full band practise and the only sound you hear is our singing while we are full blast in our headphones.
This makes for an amusing sight at a gig because we soundcheck with our headphones and no sound coming through the PA, you can see people confused :)
Just near the end of the soundcheck the sound man will turn the volume up on the PA for a quick 10 second test.

Cheers for the feedback mate. I went and picked up a little 2 channel version of your behringer monitor amp, a couple of xlr cables (for a desk and the DI on my amp head) and some in ear doodads. Should be interesting come Saturdays rehearsal - I'm hoping to be able to hear myself over the rest of the band without having complaints from the drummer who always thinks my bass is too loud (every time we record the ambient sound of a rehearsal I'm always super low in the mix after having turned down a couple of notches).
Figured I could use the 2 channel input to balance the rest of the band with my sound when we get everything plugged in to the mixing desk properly; for now it's just for the DI on my amp.
