My first car in 1994 was a 1986 Ford Sierra 2.0i GLS. Paid £800 for it.
A similar car today I guess would be a Ford Mondeo 2.0i Sport. Looking at about £6k.

However, back in the late 80s or early 90s an 8 year old car was usually completely knackered and so rusty it would be unlikely to pass an MOT without welding. These days an 8 year old car is only half way through its useful life.

My First car was a Fiat Cinquecento sporting and I'm now in a Abarth 500 so not too far apart. Price difference has a big jump from what they both were new.

First car was an E30 318i. Think it cost me around £4k way back when...a long time ago. I later found it had been clocked but it still drove brilliantly and was in an excellent condition. Think I worked out it had about 50kmiles removed. Made me wise up to the used car market and examined the history much more closely in future. Most cars since then been main dealer cars other than a few E30 M3's. I remember I somehow managed to call the previous owner who confirmed the milage when he sold it - higher than when I bought it!

I find it funny people made hearses from Ford cosworths. Don't want to be late for your own funeral.

Mine was a 1986 (D reg) Mk4 1.3 Escort that was more rotten than a politician and had stupid stubby indicator stalks that kept breaking, had it a year and swapped it for a 1989 (G reg) VW Golf Syncro (these were rare)

I learned to drive in a F reg Mk4 escort 1.3L. 5 gears including reverse and a manual choke. Loved cruising with the windows up and the system down. Amazingly it’s still on the road!
