yeah as much as cpu importance has grown, gpu is still king for gaming.

If you have any kind of budget constraint dont get a 9900k full stop in my opinion, thats a chip for those who dont have limits.

He took terrible advice, I told him as much like I said he could have had an RTX 2060 and the 9400F and been in a much better place for the next couple of years. Some people are just sucked in by marketing and numbers, rather than looking at the over all picture.

I would have suggested a Ryzen 2600/ B450 mobo instead with the option the plonk in 3600x and a new GPU...

But all is not lost..he can still upgrade his GPU :p

which is the same as upgrading his cpu twice and being slower still :D

also what is easier. replacing cpu doing bios updates hoping the new cpu functions well on a older motherboard ( it will be slightly hampered performance wise )

or...just upgrade gpu ?

I had to correct jayz2cents on a recent video, it seems even some reviewers are not aware how great value b450 is, he thought only x470 can overclock.

a lot of them are out of touch on mid range stuff, as they all used to just using the top end kit they have to promote.

A bit like when buildzoid said in one of his videos he wouldnt use anything below a 1100watt psu in his personal build. It feels kind of peasantry to those guys to use something not top end.

They get sent the high end stuff free for review purposes. More mid range reviews would cost them money because they would have to buy them. Although they do get sent some low/mid range parts as well.

Yep and hence they dont get reviewed, but occasionally they do review lower end stuff, but when they do it, it tends to not get the same time and effort put into it.

But £600 won’t get you one? I was referring to the BS post of buying a 200 quid gpu every two years lol

So what gpu do you buy for £200 then ? Then sell it 2 years on ? Go back 2 years and tell me...lol

If I was buying a GPU right now, I'd probably buy a used GTX 1070 for £185. It performs faster than a GTX 980ti‎ released in 2015 for a retail price of £550. Back then, it would have been crazy to think you'd get that level of ultra high end performance for less than £200 just 4 years later.

I doubt that we'll get 2080ti performance in 4 years for less than £200 but definately in 6 years. How is that BS?

I suggested a 2600 build, and he said he cannot use AMD as it is inferior, yet he has an AMD graphics card. It was like talking to a brick wall, he spent ~£750 for CPU/Mobo/RAM and is not going to see any performance boost in what he is doing until he replaces that ancient R9 280X, which could be a good while yet, oh to top it off 60Hz 1080p monitor. Sigh just doesn't cut it, sometimes you cannot help certain people.

Your comparing new with used pricing...

The 1070 on release offered nothing over a 980ti

The 1080ti on release offered nothing over 2080

The gfx sector is stagnant...A Radeon 7 offers nothing of a 1080ti....

Buying a 1080ti for £579 and keeping it 4 years makes better sense...

All the personal attacks here, this thread is toxic AF. No useful information, just people passing judgement. I’m frankly amazed that the mods haven’t stepped in.

I was expecting something at least remotely relevant to Zen 2, it seems the last 3-4 pages have been talking about graphics cards and Intel CPUs.

My msi pro carbon B450 is a brilliant mobo really Stella value

Jay2cents is an idiot...
That's the motherboard I got in January along with a 2600, it's fantastic and the Bluetooth/WiFi work really well.

I'm plonking in a 3600x which I plan to keep for 4-5+ years, the 2600 only cost £140 with free division 2 which I sold for 25 on the bay.

Shouldn't lose much on the 2600, even 80-90£ I'll be happy with

2500k lasted me from 2011-2019 so the 8c/16t 3600x should last me until 2025. To be honest the 2600 is fine at 1440p but I feel the need to get a zen2 chip while I have the disposable income.
