Hardware Unboxed found 2060 11% slower than a 2070 and then compared the 2060 to the 980 ti, which it found 13% faster. So lazy maths, about 24% faster than what you have...

Also direct comparison

Given Navi is around the corner and you might be able to get a 2070 equivilent for significantly less, it maybe worth hanging on anyway.

Still do you think you'll notice a 24% upgrade?

Seems like a waste of money, to be quiet frank with you, especially as you're leaving at least half the upgrade difference on the table by not overclocking your 980 ti.

Essentially the 2070 is a slightly better 1080 (particularly in certain games), while the 980 ti is more or less a 1070, especially if you OC since Maxwell had more headroom to do so than Pascal, so the differences almost equalise.

Is that really worth >£400? You set the value for your own money, but from my pov it would be foolish. If you want to spend, do it next year when Nvidia jumps to 7nm.

Although now moot since you're waiting, I guess there might be some surprising gains in the odd instance but unless you can get a nice model with impressive out of the box clock speeds and at a very good price, then as others have said I don't think it's worth it. I'd ideally want Radeon VII/2080/1080Ti speeds if coming from a 1070 or equivalent.

I moved on from a heavily clocked 980Ti and my minimum to make it worthwhile was a 2080. The 2070 just was not that much faster to make it a worthwhile change IMO.

I'm actually really shocked that going from a 980ti to a 2070 is only a 24% performance increase considering the 980 is 4 years old now that's really shocking and extremely poor performance from Nvidia

I would agree with you that the prices are rubbish but you are effectively going from a 4 yr old Ferrari to a brand new Ford focus in terms of model number. 2070 is not a high end card

It's been argued that the 2070 is a 60 series card. The 2080 or Radeon 7 is probably your sweet spot upgrade, look at 2080 vs 980 ti

Also Nvidia are reducing their prices soonish and a 2070ti is rumoured/expected.

Yea I remember reading that Nvidia has basically lowered their tiers down one level it's just a shame how slow GPUs seems to be progressing lately :(
On the bright side though I guess it means we save money in the long term by needing to upgrade less
