Didn't the same sort of thing happen to Logitech?

Logitech got scammed a different way. Their returns policy was so generous you just needed to give them a serial number and you got sent a replacement product.

If memory serves a third party was taking orders for Logitech goods, then submitting warranty claims to Logitech (not sure how they got the serial numbers) and Logitech would send out a replacement to the person that ordered originally.

There's a post on it elsewhere with swearies, it's easy to find, describing how it was done.

People with a small YouTube channel have to buy there own products for review. They buy a GPU, review it, run benchmarks and then sell it. Then hopefully when their channel gets big, the big companies will send them review samples.

Also some people try to live beyond their means and get into debt. Then they have to sell some of their possesions to pay off their debts. I often see adverts where people are selling stuff to get them out of a hole.
I suppose I never really thought about that. It’s a shame parts have got so ridiculously priced now days.

Not everyone gets ripped off.If Amazon hired employees who had a clue or at least looked at the product that might help.So I bought a used from the warehouse Zotac RTX 2080 AMP for $350 or so less than new .Turned out great for me and the used from the warehouse Zotac RTX 2080 AMP for $350 less was a better overclocker and more silent than my brand new Evga RTC Ultra XC.

Then I bought another it was fine, then bought some cables and then I started hearing about the scam which I new about for years anyway.I think I pushed my luck far enough and I might be done with the AMazon wharehouse thing.
Still had very enjoyable experience non the less.

Never thought of this. Great idea. Been wanting an upgrade for a while but refused to be ripped off. Here's a way to get an upgrade without the shafting. Anyhoo, sure the world's richest man who's made his money off the sweat of working people to the bone at minimum wage can afford a hit or two (Only half serious :) )

Yup, bought a gtx 1080 from them and inside the box was a 10 yr old gtx card. People are swapping cards left and right and sending them back. Clearly the returns department dont inspect thoroughly.

Some cards could easily sneak through the cracks, you could buy a strix 2080ti and swap it with a vega 64 strix and most likely they would be none the wiser. Though not something i would chance considering how many ti's were dying left and right :p

you were upgrading a couple of computers at a time and unfortunately you must have switched cards without even think, sorry about that.

There you go.

Yep, so easy to get away with. There is no proof that it's a deliberate attempt to deceive. These people are *********.

Edit: Okay swapping stickers over is quite damning isn't it

You could say to Amazon but if you were relying on that in court you would definitely loose the argument on "the balance of probabilities", no one would believe that with such high value goods and you knowing exactly what you were doing.

To be fair I very surprised it wasn't closed straight away for mentioning competitors.

It seems like it should be easy to catch the people doing this. After all, their name and address are on the original delivery.
Easy in theory yes because of what you say.

Easy in practice no because how can they prove beyond reasonable doubt that it wasn't done by a warehouse worker between the return arriving and the card going back out?

The mods have made it clear that it's okay to mention Amazon by name now depending on the context (basically as long as it isn't directly promoting buying an item being sold in competition, which this thread isn't).

If anything it's putting me off buying from them! I've had a few issues with their service recently. If the price is reasonably competitive I'd rather buy from OCUK.

It's like the posts/threads about people bragging on the Internet how they deliberately broke their BFG cards to get "free" upgrades.

I mean, you have to consider the fact that Amazon aren't a specialist PC hardware retailer. The chances of any given member of their staff being highly knowledgeable about PC components is going to be pretty low to start with, and when you consider that Amazon also give their staff ridiculous targets that require working themselves into an early grave to hit, I'm not surprised that things don't get much more than a cursory glance. They likely don't even have time to open the box if they want to keep up. I'm sure Amazon get a truly astronomical amount of returns across products from the whole site, and they're never going to be able to find enough people to specialise in all of them and handle that sort of volume. I guess they just accept this kind of scam as the cost of doing business, and it still probably works out cheaper than the alternative of carefully (and slowly) inspecting every item.

I worked for amazon for 5 years so am well versed in their procedures and yes, things can fall through the cracks. However, in this case the card i recieved was returned to them upside down in the box, covered in dust and was clearly used. Ironically, when i returned it to them i got an email from their returns department asking me why i had returned an old, used product. So they do check things, just not all the time.

No, you would not lose.

Because Amazon did the very same thing and sent cards out to unsuspecting buyers from their warehouse with different cards in them. The probability of that happening should be less because they actually have a system in place.

They do indeed check on the odd occasion - I've bought stuff, and had a completely different item show up. Upon returning, I've been asked why I returned a different item.

Problem is, these scams are getting quite complex - people buying an RTX 2060 and 2080 Ti, and returning the 2060 in the 2080 Ti box. Since manufacturers often use very similar/same coolers throughout their series, it's very difficult to tell the difference. Unless it specifically says on labels etc :p
