Considering replacing Gtx 1080TI for 2080TI, Worth the extra cost?

Hello and good evening all,

So I currently have a GTX 1080TI (Zotac AMP) and play at 1440p, I play a wide range of games including fps, rts and others. My 1080ti has been performing well at 1440p, though I have now started to wonder if the 2080TI would be a good upgrade at this time and have started to question how long the 1080TI will last.

I could get around £450-500 for my current 1080TI, so wanted to ask for those who have upgraded from a 1080TI to a 2080TI have you found the purchase worth it?, or should I wait to see what the next AMD cards bring to the table.

Cheers

I have a 1080Ti and also play at 1440p with a 165hz monitor.
I don't see the point, or need to upgrade personally, the card handles everything perfectly fine.
I have seen a lot of posts with failing issues with the 2080ti so I don't think its worth it personally, but see what others say who have had more experience than me.

Why are you thinking about upgrading?

A whole heap of money needed for what? 25 to 30 odd %
Er naaa... Nvidia can keep it imho, i will stick with the 1080ti - even if it doesnt come with a copy of space invaders and some nonsense raytracing that half a game uses.

I upgraded from a 1080ti to 2080ti. By the time I sold my old card it cost £650. I can now run everything at maximum settings and locked at 100fps which is monitor refresh rate 3440x1440. On the 1080ti I wasn't able to use supersampling in Insurgency Sandstorm, it would hammer the frame rate. Now I can. Its a lot of money though just for some more fps. I haven't used RTX in any games as it kills fps ands tbh I hardly notice the difference when playing

No point. If you really want to throw some money at your computer, then perhaps look at something else like storage, memory or sound?

Thank's for the replies all.

Yh I think it's best to just stick with what I have for now, just impulses can be hard to resist sometimes!, especially when it comes to tech!.

A card costing near enough twice the price of a 1080ti only offering at best 30% better performance is terrible.

Save your money and wait until you at least get a 50% improvement for around the same cost as your 1080ti.

That's my rule of thumb anyway, no matter what graphics card tier you're on. I only upgrade my GPU when I can buy one that is at least 50% faster for around the same cost as my current one

Well in Rage 2, a game that released last week the 2080ti is 50% faster than the 1080ti at 4k, so the "30% at best" line that trolls like to use is a flat out lie

I'm in the same boat and have been tempted for months but I cant justify it at 1440p 144hz. I have ordered an NZXT g12 and a OCuk tech 240mm AIO for my card to keep me happy for a little while longer

Absolutely terrible upgrade. 1080ti is a beast of a card, cause 100fps+ @1440p ultra settings requires an upgrade???

Hold off for a few years, get 50% increase at a sensible price later down the line. Plus you'll probably get a crap 2080ti and play the RMA games anyway.

Lol 1 game at 4k

Whichever way you try to paint it the 2080ti has a terrible price to performance upgrade path from a 1080ti.

At least people who upgraded from say a 980ti to a 1080ti got around 50% performance uplift for pretty much what they paid for a new 980ti. This nvidia gen is just a total joke for cost

If you stream or play games competitively I think there you have a case for a 2080Ti likewise if you work with VR otherwise its simply not worth it on so many levels. The 2080Ti imho is being used by nvidia cynically to make the Pascal 1000 series look like value for money without lowering the prices despite being 3yrs in the market. That's its job its not there to give gamers the best gaming experience ever hence its a very poor GPU upgrade for most people.
