Considering replacing Gtx 1080TI for 2080TI, Worth the extra cost?

Well in Rage 2, a game that released last week the 2080ti is 50% faster than the 1080ti at 4k, so the "30% at best" line that trolls like to use is a flat out lie

The 30% figure that often gets used is just a rough average and if anything is slightly too high as I have seen the difference as low as about 12%, it all depends on the software but 30% is a reasonable average..

So yes you can get the odd game title that will run 50% faster.

Upgraded from 1080 to 2080ti and wasn't worth it IMO, 3440x1440. Mate bought a 2080 and plays at same res and there's a not much difference between than and the Ti.

I'm a 2080Ti owner, the 2080Ti is awful value for money, but If I had the choice I'd still buy it over a 1080Ti every day of the week.

Keep the 1080 Ti as that will still chew through 1440p.
The £650 you would spend is better spent on upgrading other hardware or just keeping the money in till something at a reasonable price comes out.

I don't get your logic. You have a 1080ti and its doing well at 1440p which is what you play at.

Surely when the 1080ti stops performing well at your utilised resolution, you then upgrade.

Like I don't know if I'm missing something. Surely this is common sense.

I'd generally recommend to stay away from 2080ti, the less people buy it the more nvidia will think about pulling stunt like this again.

Top end cards shouldn't cost over 1k, we should boycott it.

I've had a 2080Ti, and unless you plan on switching to 4k/144hz then I'd leave it, 1440p tends to bottleneck it (even 1440p Ultrawide) and doesn't give a great deal of performance over the 2080 usually.

Stay put til the next gen imo, it should be more worth it.

Thanks for the replies all :).

Will stick with the 1080TI for now then, maybe look at a 4k Monitor and next gen equiv card when released.

I still can't believe how much grunt the 1080ti has. I run it on my sim rig with triple Aorus 1440p monitors, most of my racing sims hit around the 100fps mark with high to Ultra high settings. Considering triple 1440p screens yield a much higher pixel count than 4k, it's quite astonishing how it copes at those frames. Amazing card it really is.

30% was being quoted as the 'at best', not the average.
A card costing near enough twice the price of a 1080ti only offering at best 30% better performance is terrible.

Now that games are finally moving towards Vulkan, it's a convenient time for NVIDIA to gimp the last generation with regard to compute based shading - this despite the 1xxx series already having most of the improvements being utilised in the 2xxx.

They ALWAYS do it. No different this time, and it will be no different next year when the 3xxx generation launches.

Rage 2 is a very badly optimised game, so the onus is really on GPU vendors to support it with their drivers and make it work. NVIDIA took the opportunity to optimise sales of new product ... you don't see that huge difference in idTech6 games.

Even GTA V you have to cut AA to do 4K 60, my 1080Ti has to cut AA and a few ultra settings like shadows to very high and it still dips to 40.

Luckily AA on a 4K 55" TV doesn't need to be too high and some titles you can have it off totally and it's fine.

I briefly considered a 2080 Ti last year but just couldn't justify the gains over what I eventually bought, my second hand 1080 Ti for less than half the price. It's been more reliable than many 2080 Ti's too!

The thought of spending over £1k on something which in many cases has only has a 1 or 2 year warranty and many known issues gives me chills.
