Who is looking at just the 3600 and 3600x?

I doubt most of us can afford the price premium of the more expensive chips. £400 for a 3800x and intel equivalent sounds a bit rich.

When did processors start costing this much ? I’m sure once we spent £150 for core i5’s and £250 for core i7 flagships. What happened ?

I'm one of them. I do remember the days of £150 i5's, the whole range has shifted up multiple gears unfortunately. It's pushing me further and further away from PC's.

I'm hoping the 3600x is a significant improvement over my 1600x, £250 is the absolute max I will spend on CPU, and we've had 6c/12t at this price point for well over 2 years now, so other than IPC and a bit of extra on the frequency, that's all you get extra. I was hoping we'd be at the 8c/16t at that price point but alas, it wasn't to be.

The 3700X has a TDP of 65 Watts with the 3800X 105 Watts.

surly if the 3700X has that extra 8 core CPU chiplet the TDP would be higher, not lower?

still think its a single chip, but all core boosts will be greatly different. my 2700 sucks over 2700x if left at default ! also OC is naff only getting 4ghz all cores with very high voltage but IMC is a diamond !

According to amd slides $500 cpu (1800x) from two years ago, to $500 cpu (3900x) from this year... it's 32% increase in single thread performance. Pretty good especially it's cpu we're talking about (not gpu) and only 2 years time.

I'll take it. Decent upgrade for gen1.

Can be also the case of being other way around. But thats what I think difference is.

@orbitalwalsh naming got me interested why its not 3700 vs 3800x or 3800 vs 3800x. Why both are X. And tdp 65 vs 105 hmm. Must be more to it than just boost settings i think.

So according to Hardware Unboxed AMD talked about Ryzen 5 after the keybote

3600X - 95W - 3.8Ghz boost 4.4Ghz $250
3600 - 65W - 3.6Ghz boost 4.2Ghz $200

Both 6 core 12 thread with 32MB L3 Cache

Has anyone seen anything more about this supposed secret sauce hardware Asus are implementing into their mobos? Allegedly improves RAM overclocking considerably.

well concidering the OC socket on X99 actually yielded better uncore clocks on AVG , id be inclinded to believe them too, i wanted to move away from asus after x470 but if it works and works well enough to show actual performance increases its a buy from me

Pretty mad that the gaming world is buzzing with excitement. For the fact that. AMD just matched a cpu already on the market from intel. For around the same price.

I dissapoint.

That is just factually not true at all. It is £130 cheaper for almost identical perfmance even with the i9 9900k at £450 because of where the 3700x sits.

That's a good step up whilst also the first to offer PCIE 4.0 for M. 2 drives and GPUs.

So identical gaming perfmance with a few % means you can get the cpu and mono for almost as much as just CPU from Intel.

Why be so blind because it isn't this uber epic thing that people read into from leaks.

I think just like the 2700 vs 2700X the 3700X and 3800X are the same CPU, the 3800X has a higher all CPU XFR boost hence the 40 Watt Higher TDP, but the 3700X can be clocked the same.

2700 65 Watts, 2700X 105 Watts, they are the same CPU.
