Airflow issues msi 390x

Hello everybody,

I have airflow issues with my 390x.
Above the GPU (at the backplate) it gets VERY hot. So hot it even crashes my pc when gaming..
I've already taken apart the card and cleaned it and added new termal paste.

The issue lies with the airflow i'm fairly certain!
In this picture the blue arrows are fans that move cold air, red hot and the red circle thing is where the heat is from the gpu right now.

I think the airflow from the front, to cpu to back is to strong(?) and the gpu isn't getting cooled.
Now I was thinking maybe to turn the cpu cooler (if possible) or reverse the gpu fans ( to exaust fans) and if that won't do it maybe water cooling ( wich i really rather not do ).

Does anyone care to share me your thoughts on how to proceed best?

I suggest removing all PCIe back slot covers to increase rear vent area around GPU. If you mobo has a 16x PCie socket farther away from CPU, moe GPU down to it.

What case and what case fans are you using? What is case fan speed curve set at?

I will remove them , there is no PCI slot at the top (where the heat is ) though.
I do have more x16 PCIe sockets but then it will significantly lower troughput (like with 50%).

Case: NZXT H440 with stock fans ( if you want i can look up what fans they are)
I've set them to 30% till 40 celcius system and after that it goes rappidly up to 100% if system is 60 degrees.

For example Phanteks PH-F120MP and PH-F140MP are rated 1.72mm / 53.3cfm @1800rpm and 1.62mm / 68.1cfm @ 1600rpm. PH-F120MP are £14.99 for 2-pack and PH-F140MP are £16.26 for 2-pack. They are PWM and your 2x CPU fan headers are PWM control, but your 3x system headers are variable voltage with 4th pin doing nothing. :( Not to worry because these fans work well on veriable voltage too.

allright i guess i can change the fans but do you think that will help the airflow? Bc right now it looks like there is a deadspot above the GPU where no air comes bc the CPU cooler.
Also do you think turning the cpu cooler will help?

There might be a dead spot, hard to tell for sure. I would expect the fans on CPU cooler to be causing some airflow in that area. Play around with fan speeds and see if it helps. Like run case fans at full speed while CPU & GPU are not working too hard.

I doubt turning cooer will help .. it might get rid of hot spot, but will not cool CPU as well. That hot spot is probably directly behind the GPU chip. ;)
