Been looking forward to sharing this product with you for a long time and yesterday at Computex it was finally unveiled.
The new Steelseries APEX PRO/APEX PRO really are a game changer, and will be a fantastic upgrade to your arsenal. They look amazing, they have unique features and they are built to last.
The most exciting feature I will point out first is the unique switch type:
The OmniPoint Adjustable Mechanical Switch allows you to customise the actuation point of each switch on the board (not including numpad or function keys). This allows you to customise your gaming keyboard to your preferences. You can have your WASD keys react faster or set them to actuate lower down so you won't accidentally press them if running keys over the board to say the 1-5 keys. You can set your crouch button to actuate almost instantly, or not unless you bottom it out.
It is a game changer and the uses for it in game or even day to day typing should mean this keyboard (with the use of profiles) will be able to set up for nearly any scenario. You won't have the audible feedback of say a blue switch but you can set your actuation anywhere from faster than the current fastest switch to lower down than the current hardest to actuate switches.
I had a go and I was amazed. If you take your time, set up your keyboard how you like it and practice with it it makes the keyboard feel way more intuitive and it almost feels like you are wearing it like a second skin.
"But Ahhh!" I hear you say " you'll have to do this through the software and all peripheral software is terrible!".
Well you're wrong!
Steelseries software is the best out there, whether or not it's it's customisation, FW updating, or integration with Discord, etc. There is none better and they've made the adjustable actuation point really easy to control and test.
Second feature is the OLED screen. From this you'll be able to receive discord notifications, have whats playing on your spotify playlist, game info displayed. You'll also be able to use it as a screen to help adjust RGB, actuation point and macros on the fly.
I've gone on long enough, you can check them out more below, and also check out the Apex 7 and Apex 7 TKL which have the same chassis and features but not the adjustable switch. For the customisation of the APEX PRO you do have to pay a premium but I think it is worth it. Alongside the other features you get. You also get fantastic build quality and aesthetics. I think when these start to land (which should be around mid-June for the Apex 7) they will be amongst the most popular keyboards on the market.
And if you don't want to pay the premium for the adjustable switches grab one of the Apex 7 which are comparable to the price of other full size/TKL mechanical gaming keyboards on the market, but with the extra features you get in the APEX PRO
