Just seen the crazy 2070 prices  The $499 price makes sense now especially if it's between 2070 & 2080 performance. Not that that's a good price just that Nvidia's prices are stratospheric :(

Do they need to?
I have never understood why AMD needs to put out a card to beat Nvidias hideously overpriced nonsense when the vast majority of folk buy much cheaper cards.
Of course there is always the halo or percieved brilliance of nvidias lower down stuff that aint really true just because of the 2080ti but well what can you do ....

I can’t understand why AMD are doing so well lately, but they still have not produced anything that really rivals the 2080Ti
Why bother? Why bother investing R&D money you don't have into trying to beat a halo product and sell 5 of them when you could just target the upper mid range and sell a boat load? AMD do not have the time, money or mind share right now to be comparing e-peens.

The concept of competing at the high end, and the image it portrays of AMD when they do or don't, is a conversation for next year when their "next gen" gets closer.

Exactly, Nvidia has the high end on lock down. AMD's last attempt, the Radeon 7 has been selling like it already has one foot in the grave, pathetic.

We have received, what appears to be, a slide from tomorrow’s official announcement of Radeon RX 5700 series.

AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT features 40 Compute Units (2560 stream processors). The Navi GPU is clocked at 1605 MHz in base mode, 1755 MHz in Game Mode and 1905 MHz in boost mode. Of course, the new addition here is the Game Clock.

The card is confirmed to feature 8GB of GDDR6 memory.

9.75tflop + 25% IPC = 12tflop = it's pretty much a Vega 64

If they have a few higher SKUs to come it's not looking too bad. Forget the 2080 Ti and just compete everywhere else seems a decent strategy to me.

What’s the lol about?

You never mentioned resolution

1080p 120fps should be possible for next gen consoles playing games with current gen graphics. Even 1440p 120hz May work in some instances

Scarlett at a glance: - 120fps - 8k capability - 4x more powerful than the Xbox One X - 40x performance increase over current generation consoles

Those numbers are wonky and I bet they won’t disclose how they came up with those gems.

40 times over current gen? So the Xbox 2 is a 50tflop gpu? Yeah nope they obviously mean CPU - but how did they measure Jaguar vs Zen2. Same goes for 4 times Xbox one x - Navi isn’t 18 tflop, they must be talking about the CPU or a combination of CPU plus GPU. The Navi 5700xt desktop is only 9 tflop.

8k: same as the ps5, it’s for movies, youtube, Netflix etc. obviously games won’t output at 8k

But nevertheless my 4K 120hz tv looking mighty fine with all the next gen features were getting

Under the hot sun.
MS spilled the beans tonight of the NAVI capabilities, 1 day before AMD does so.
The new Xbox is 4 times more powerful than the Xbox One X.

up to 120fps, and up to 8K visuals. Also the console will support next-gen Ray Tracing.

120fps 4K probably (4x more powerful than the Xbox OneX)

And thats a console!!! More powerful than the significant majority of the PCs people have in this forum.
