Under the hot sun.
How to update the BIOS on the X470 board? Who would do it, how and how much money would they want?

Two years ago you could buy a 5 1600 configuration for 514$ and i7-7800X configuration for 1020$, but people still preferred the more expensive one.

Usually if you buy new board from respectable retailers like OCUK, it comes updated as you do remember. Similarly even from Amazon they were coming patched after the first month a new CPU was out. As did my X99 Gaming, came with support for the 6850K, even when it came out didn't had any.

Yeah, thats something ignored by many when comes to Intel. They (we) forget that we needed to replace motherboard with every CPU.
I would have still had my Asrock Z170 Formula OC now if it wasn't intel policy to do so for money making.
And it is the motherboard if modded, could take the 7700K and the 8700K also.

As for AMD there are still the B450s for the new CPUs, albeit I doubt they can take the 3950X and might not OC the 3900X.
But they can easily take the new 3800X and bellow.

For 210 euros, you can get a 7 2700. For sure a better buy than the new six-core offers that are even significantly more expensive.
Wider 8-core vs narrower 6-core with potentially higher peak scores in some benchmarks.

Why is everyone getting into a flap about prices on some Danish website?

Here's official US pricing and I'm sure they will be closer to what we'll see in british pounds

Ryzen 9 3900X $499
Ryzen 7 3800X $399
Ryzen 7 3700X $329
Ryzen 5 3600X $249
Ryzen 5 3600 $199

That's without VAT, shipping and is not clear if not for 1000 units.
The U states except Delaware (0%) have VAT, too.

Huh? Those are SRP prices, straight from AMD. They already include retailer profit, etc. If you convert those dollar figures to GBP and add VAT, they actually got slightly lower. R7 3700X for more than £329 = no thanks mate.

Better than the 6 core 8700k which is selling for now far off the 3700x price

Ryzen 9 3900X 12C/24T £499
X470 Aorus Ultra £129.99
Total £628.99

9900K £469.99
Z390 Aorus Pro £160
Total £629.99

The Intel has 4 less cores for £1 extra. Surely the 3900X will completely detroy the 9900K?

8+2 VRM with 200W+ on the 3900X when you make use of full PBO on lots of cores, not for me, it will run pretty hot and if I'm buying 12 cores I want max boost available.

On reflection Z390 + 9700K for ~£500 all in looks to be decent value for the next few years of gaming when AMD are getting close to £350 for a mobo. In productivity work loads 12 cores will thrash it, but in most games and non time dependant use it would be fine, especially at 1440P. No fussy memory etc. I want 4 dimms at > 3200Mhz, reasonable timings.

Anyhow, it's a protest vote where I'd be prepared to risk a slightly worse option rather than pay double the price of a motherboard just because it has PCI-E 4 and A VRM similar to Z390.
There are principles, I'd like to support AMD having used their X64, X2 and Opteron back in the day but if they plan to scalp with insane priced premium motherboards then I'll give my cash to Intel / Nvidia.
Customers vote with there wallets and right now, AMD platform seems to be making Intel look like the value option.

For a 6-8 core, most X470's are fine, but there are very few X470 boards which can exploit the high core chips, at least in my opinion.
having bought 'value' boards in the past, abit fatal1ty fp-in9 sli fatality springs to mind, I'll never buy another fatality branded product or skimp on technical features - VRM, BIOS, Memory compatibility.

Wow, I see foreign currency conversion isn't your strong point. :p

It's £240 Inc VAT at 20%
Makes little difference, since I can't afford it anyhow. Even the cheapest Ryzen 3 upgrade will be £500. An 8-core Ryzen upgrade £600.

Got to find me a new hobby.

Or just ride this 2500k till she gives up the ghost, then find me a new hobby :p

100% it'll be more than those figures in £, unless stock was paid for months ago at a much higher exchange rate (to $). Even if it was, it's unlikely price will truly reflect that as lower price will be used to offset higher price now.

£ is getting smashed as we're virtually certain to get either a narcissistic clown or some Brexiteer ultra as next PM.

Or you could just order one from an EU vendor, like I just listed. ;)

There is plenty of stock around, allocations are being easily fulfilled and many, many retailers are going to be fighting for your £££'s, prices will not be higher than the $ equivalents.
