Does anyone know what this hammer was designed for?

I have had this well over 40 yrs and it came from a bereavement sale. I know it is a Kimberley hammer as it's stamped on the side and think it must be 100+ years old as D Kimberley was taken over at turn of the century.

Unfortunately the head broke off years ago - I had a go at putting it back on but it broke again so it's been in a drawer for as long as I can remember - As you can see the handle unscrews and there is a storage compartment for what I don't know - on the end of the handle is a small clamp - almost like a chuck and the only thing that could in theory be put in there is nails or tack with smooth shank. - or maybe a drill bit.

I thought made for a cobbler or upholsterer but that's just guess work.

It might be an original item - my grandad on one side of the family and I think great-grandad on the other used to get hammer heads like that and then fashion their own handles for a variety of different uses, sometimes just using things they had spare to hand that suited the intended usage rather than something that was specifically a handle.
