have 14 days to return it but really want this to work out, my broadband is max speed 5mbps with a guarantee of 3mbps lol, 3 told me the minimum would be 15mbps but average should be 30mbps, well I was hyped but got router and this is what I got, wired/wireless https://imgur.com/a/VfifDXtliterally same as my broadband :(, took this ghetto ass video for a friend whos trying to help, I am not tech savvy at all but here it is, any settings I could change? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GnejueSISY also would this be worth investing in? how much would it help?

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product...DGFPS&linkId=806d7990b6c3e6be7b1f2c4c688e93c4

its pretty expensive and I know I can return but thats such a pain in the arse and really only want to invest if its acutally going to make a decent improvement,

Thanks for any help, I just want to try play a game after work lol :(

Oh should also say that 3 said I had excellent coverage in my area

At 0:56 in the video, your 4G signal is 2/5, so pretty poor signal.

4G, especially the bandwidth that Three uses, doesn't penetrate buildings very well so you generally don't get brilliant 4G performance indoors. That antenna you linked should definitely help provided that your router has the connections for an external antenna on it.

if all you want to do is play games, broadband even if its 5, or 3 or 1mbps its more than enough and better than any 3g or 4g connection. id use the broadband for games and the 4g for downloading, you can improve its signal slightly for free, by placing it near an upstairs window.

4g I get 3mbps which in steam is around 200kps, most games are 20gig or way more, I mean if I wanted to play blops3 its nearly 100gig, Id be downloading for 2 weeks straight lol

Sounds like your on the end of a bit of wet string there.
Dunno if 4g is the answer, maybe an external aerial for it - if 3 said you were guaranteed 15 big ones and dont get it push them for something else like an external antenna.

The router 3 sent only has one connection so most of the decent antennas are out the question, If I buy another router plus antenna then im looking at another 250.00 and thats not even guaranteed too work :( bought a whole new pc but my terrible internet is putting me on the verge of sending it back

Ive spoke to bt a few times and had actual bt engineers come out and they all say the same, max I can get its 11 at the cabinet i think they said but max speed they can guarantee is 3mbps :(

I'd be using a long network cable and trying that router in different positions around the house. An upstairs window sill facing in the direction of the transmitter would be a good starting point. That or the loft.

Something I've found with 4G is that generally getting the antenna as high as possible makes the most difference first and foremost even sometimes counter-intuitively to line of sight. But at the end of the day conditions might just be so poor for 4G you won't get great results even with a specialised antenna.

I have to say so far I've been quite impressed with Virgin Mobile (EE) where I am now - despite being several KMs from the two nearest masts and not great line of sight most of the time I get a very stable ping and reasonable speeds:

https://imgur.com/a/F47eMIq this is what I can get, I have so many engineers round because it always drops and goes wrong, they basically said my ex

It literally says on the screen 'Postcode only checks will not return any results for Fibre services'. Use your house number on an address search and then post up those details.

Using a random house at that postcode, 'Cedar Lea' we get:
VDSL Range A (Clean) 13.1 7.1 1.2 0.8 5.2 Available Available
VDSL Range B (Impacted) 13.1 7.1 1.2 0.6 5.2 Available Available

Or 7.1-13.1Mbps. Not great but likely way more reliable than 4g and likely unlimited too.

Do you have a phone that supports 4G? Might be easier to test out speeds in certain locations before moving your router around.

think ill buy a better router and antenna and see if anything changes, fingers crossed

Something to keep in mind a lot of routers have moved to fixed antennas :( even some that have SMA connections on the first revision which makes it a pain for adding in an external one.

Despite a quoted range of around 30-35 down and 5-7 up for FTTC for where I'm living at the moment the line only does around 24 down and 1.1 up :( due to "bridge taps" and probably line conditions in general - 4G has been a god send for me since moving. Need to get an engineer out still to sort the line but having some account issues as BT as usual is a mess when something actually goes wrong. So could be something similar in this case as well.

When upgrading the antenna everyone always forgets about the fact that 4G is two-way communication and upgrading the antenna tends to get you better reception but not necessarily better transmission so things remain poor. If you PM me your address I’ll happily lend you a Mikrotik SXT-LTE with a flat cable and a glass mount system so you can stick it to an upstairs window and pass the cable through the window. It’s the best system I know of for a fast quick and dirty 4G network install.

If that doesn’t work, nothing will work. That will let you see one way or the other if it’s worth persisting with 4G as a solution to your problem.

On that note in some cases external single antenna (with the main antenna internal) and/or devices with a fixed antenna and an optional additional SMA connection (for "upgrading") are only connecting to the aux/diversity port on the LTE module on the exposed connection which I believe is only used for reception anyway.

i doubt you would only get 3mbit if you could sync at 11. its worth a shot as 11mbits not all that bad.
