If you mean 3440 x 1440, then yeah a 1080Ti is a pretty nice option. I still use them for my ultrawide and even a single one does a solid job most the time, can do 60 FPS in most titles with settings cranked up. If its a higher refresh rate Ultrawide, then may need some settings in demanding games tweaked down to maintain the higher FPS, but in lots of games, often get settings that can be tweaked down from max / ultra for little visual change.

Can possibly see what the 2080 Super or whatever it is does to prices of normal 2080 I suppose, but for £450, the 1080Ti is a solid option.

i was thinking of a 2080 or 2080 super but the prices for these all seem to be around £700 and god knows how much the 2080 super will be.

I'm really torn on whether to wait or try and hop on a second hand 1080ti at a decent price. the 1080ti just feels like such a safe card to buy at the moment given how little nvidia want to improve.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I still fully expect the 2080 whatever happens will still be more expensive then a second hand 1080Ti.

But yeah as my initial post, the 1080Ti with a 3440 x 1440 panel, more so one with sync technology and higher refresh rate is an amazing combination for most the part. Been having an amazing experience ever since moving to 3440 x 1440, just need to tweak some filters in the most demanding game / settings for higher FPS, but no biggie with all the guides out showing the impact in performance vs visual difference.

Depends on the type of games you play really.
I mean I have seen Borderlands 2 running on a 3440x1440 monitor at 75Hz using a 1080 and the GPU isn't even getting warm, let alone hot. Having said that Monster Hunter World you would have to turn the graphics settings to low quality to achieve the same smooth, fast performance. So I think a 1080ti is the minimum I would consider buying, but at the same time I think you may find it a bit limiting in some titles. So whether you should buy a 1080ti or wait for a cheap 2080ti is up to you. Honestly I wouldn't but a 2080ti right now, I would be tempted to wait a year and see what happens. So if your current graphics card really can't cut it, yes, sure, the 1080ti is a great stopgap for the next year.

1070 Ti / 1080 / Vega 64 for 60 hz will cut it (just), with compromises for demanding games.

There's no such thing as overkill for 100 hz or more @ 3440x1440. 1080 Ti, Radeon VII, and 2080 territory is where you want to be, or preferably the 2080 Ti.
