Find yourself a HP Microserver Gen 8 and set that up with a suitable Linux distro or Windows Server Essentials.

Whichever solution you choose, make sure you buy drives in pairs so that they can be mirrored in case of failure.

I was thinking HP Microserver with OpenMediaVault installed. Decent NIC and SATA controller which is often the failing in cheaper NAS boxes.

What a breeze to setup, I'm transferring from my old Seagate NAS to the new one.

If anybody buys a Synology go to You Tube and type in How To Setup A Synology Nas and there are 12 easily explained parts.
