I’m waiting for “Drive to survive: season 2” so I can watch the behind the scenes footage with Haas.

Listening to Gunther come over the radio and berate Magnussen was hilarious (last race). I imagine he was a lot more animated than the feed made out :D

Hamilton is relentless. You've got to feel sorry for the guys who are in F1 at the same time. Sure, most will be able to blame the lack of a top flight car, but the likes of Bottas and Vettel must know they are just not good enough to beat Hamilton. No driver wants to be racing for second.

Button and Rosberg were both 'happy with P2' drivers.

This is exactly the same incident that first came to mind as well. Magnussen totally binned it into the wall of champions during qualifying, all his own fault. Haas crew spend all night fixing Magnussen's error and piecing together the entire car. Then Magnussen spends all race complaining how bad the car is.

Can't wait to see the extra behind the scenes type footage.

I think we've seen this in action. Bottas has lost his chance. Hamiltons tyres looked the worst out of everyone by the end of the race, yet he was still opening up a big gap and nearly beat Vettel's fastest lap - crazy considering the age of Hamilton's tyres. Even when beaten in quali, Hamilton always has superior race pace. In the Rosberg days we always figured he was setup more for the race, but maybe he just extracts more from the car over a longer stint. Things might be boring at the moment, but it is still impressive to watch this masterclass. Max is the only driver even remotely close to Hamilton currently, I would love to see them in the same team.

It turns out both Vettel had a bit of battery deployment and something obvious people missed, vettel was told a target time to beat which at the time was 33.5 from Ham. THe issue was Ham smashed that with a 32.7 on his final lap, Vettel was at the chicane on the long straight when he was told the target changed. So he was going for a lap a comfortable one second faster and then with only a few corners to go was told yeah...... so the target moved up by 8/10ths so you need to push harder.

Basically the only reason it was close is frankly because Ferrari screwed it up again. Vettel told them he wanted to come in as late as possible, but ended up only doing one lap of full charging on his out lap, likely without that good tire temps then did his hot lap and was only aiming to beat a 33.5. If they pit him two laps earlier, he could have done an extra 2 laps of battery charging and if they simply told him to go as fast as possible it's likely they would have blown that Hamilton time away by a large margin.

Either way, now we have as a result the like of Brundle doing a piece in which Mercedes are seconds faster than Ferrari and just toying with them. Sky F1 coverage has become a **** show of Daily mail level drama inducing crap where they comment on things they clearly aren't getting right but turn the drama up to 11. Brundle changes his lifelong positions on a whim to create drama against the Canada penalty.

Interesting is there a story on this anywhere?

Where did you hear all that?

Yes, Brundle seems to do whatever will get more views these days. I once valued his insight. I now think he is too far removed from actually driving these things and with too much alignment with Sky to give any real insight anymore.

If they pitted him two laps earlier then it would have opened the door for Verstappen to have a crack at the fastest lap too.

I always had a bit of a thing against Brundle, his insight behind the scenes and specifically into driving was decent but his reading of tactics, drivers, results always seemed way off but these days he's just a hyperbolic idiot. Sky has gone terrible in the last 3-4 years. Maybe it was 2-3 years ago they tried out that 'debate' thing where on the F1 show thing would do Crofty vs Ted and they'd both take pretty stupid and completely opposite takes and debate some point in which both extreme ends of the argument were utterly stupid. it just showed what they'd become about, drama for dramas sake.

Ted 5-6 years ago was still doing mostly highlighting changes on cars, actual information and not much bias and or drama or judging everything, now it's barely anything technical and mostly him just stirring up crap. I mostly can't stand him any more, Crofty was always dire, Brundle has gotten way worse, Davidson was one of the only more accurate guys but his take on the vettel penalty has been as absurd as anyone else. Karun was actually a bit of a breath of fresh air in that he had stories similar to Brundle to relate things, but a far more modern take on everything. But his video on that penalty as well "here Vettel left Hamilton room"... points to screen showing Hamilton run off track, plays the video forward in slow motion, Hamilton stamps on brakes and Vettel moves further across. That was a seriously biased and painful analysis. Also why it was hilarious Ferrari used that as new evidence, the video alone shows he deserved the penalty and karun's analysis is proven to be wrong by the very video he's talking about because basically everything he says is untrue.

The Vettel thing seems to be coming out of people watching on boards and getting the full radio conversations that tend to get released/found/put together a while after the races.

True, though he had a faster car, and Verstappen would also have failed to have a good preparation if he went for it on the final lap.

I said before though, I was kinda waiting for Vettel to go with 5 laps to go, then Verstappen, then leclerc, then Bottas, then Ham, would have been pretty funny.
