55’’ (Max) TV recommendation

My cousin is after a new TV, pref wanting OLED with a max budget of £1,100, but wants to get as cheap as possible (if that’s even possible for OLED?!) - he even asked if possible for £600!!

Sizing don’t want to go any bigger than 55”.
will be used for watching TV and playing Xbox/PS4.

Would happily settle for a decent 4K model too.

I haven’t got a scooby doo when comes to TVs so if anyone has any recommendations please let me know.

Lcd for gaming and pc.
Oled for movies.

Nota a chance oled for £600. You'll get a budget LCD for that.

£600 you will be looking at edge lit LED, but most of last years are gone and this years are still too expensive.

Right lads just to clarify:

I'm looking at two options really. Is OLED really worth it? I'm seeing mixed reviews on this forum so it's hard to tell. Lots of talk about banding and screen burn which is putting me off slightly.

I've got a max budget of £1200 but if a £600 tv is half decent then I can put up with it.

I'm in two minds really. Do I go towards the top end and fork out on an OLED or QLED tv or do I just get an LED TV around 400-600 quid. I've seen the phillips ambilight led tv's for quite cheap knocking around and I do like the ambilighting effect but unsure if the tv's are any good.

Use is mostly for gaming on Xbox. Less fussed about picture quality on movies.

Cheap LCD is not a patch on oled.but I wouldn't use plasma or oled for games.

Good LCD is expensive similar to oled.

Honestly this is a bad time of year for a £600 TV, in reality you are buying a £300 TV with the initial 'new' price inflation. Previously I would have recomended the Q6 from last year but I cant see it in stock and its replacement is a) Not as good and b) twice as expensive.

I'm moving out within the month so wouldn't mind buying a tv for when I get my house sorted. Is there any you would recommend? Any last year models you can see that you'd say are worth going for etc?

Not restricted to 600 quid. If it's 1000 i'll bite the bullet.

Would something like this do the job and just wait a bit longer in the future for a different tv?

That's the best you will get for a £1000 and 55" size.

OLED is not for gaming on for long periods, the odd game here and there is fine but if you want it for gaming only and not bothered about how many hours you will play then the LCD TVs are the only sensible option. Also if you want a bright image LCD again wins compared to OLED as the screens are limited how bright they can go to limit burn in and power use (ABL).

Gaming on oled looks amazing However a few 45 min sessions is all I do. Oled fantastic but you need to take care of it. Nothing comes close for watching TV & Movies on a oled . A Qled type Hisense is what I'd do. Drop £600 on one and just go with it.. I have both, yes I'm lucky but someone has too.

A used 2016/2017 OLED should be around 600 by now.

Although unsure if it's just better to get the 2018 model if there is barely any difference?

Not heard of the brand myself but the last time I bought some speakers from a random brand they ended up being an absolute bargain and really good. Don't mind taking a punt on it if the panel is decent.

Panasonic GX800 might be worth looking into, the FX750 last year was terrific.

I can still see FX750's around then. Worth looking at the GX800 over the 750's then?

I've noticed they do 50 inch tv's which is a bit more suited to the space we have in the living room.

When would you say is a good time to get a 55" TV?
I'm looking for an oled for about £1300

As a gamer I’m really disappointed with how slack and lazy Sony has been towards gamers with their panels.

Their 2019 comfortably claims the top spot for worst gaming input lag, and little to no gaming features like variable refresh, high refresh etc

At 1000 pound I’d see if I could get an oled on special as it obviously delivers the best image quality. But if you are watching lots of CNN, sports then maybe not as that could cause burn in. Which is a shame, I’ve always found oleds to deliver a much smoother viewing experience compared to led for sport
