Do you like live music? Many of the bars in North Beach have a band on at night, Tupelo and Maggie McGarry are next door to each other. Fisherman's wharf during the day, golden gate bridge. Amira just off Powell st is a good Indian restaurant I haven't done an Alcatraz tour but I did drive a boat around it thanks to a colleague there

Alcatraz tour is a must, thoroughly enjoyed that. A walk across the Golden Gate bridge was worth it too.

Make sure you have Uber. Lots of parts are now rough as a butchers dog and my wife was scared a few times due to the sheer number of lunatics wandering around screaming and yelling.

We didn't think too much of fisherman's wharf and pier 39, very commercialised so I wouldn't recommend there per say. I wish we would have researched some lesser known restaurants etc before we went.

I agree about Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39, not worth it unless you have loads of free time. Go for your run in the Golden Gate park if you can, very nice park with a great water feature in the centre. Pop up to Battery Spencer for good views of the Golden Gate Bridge, hopefully it's not too foggy. ;)

Try and get a night tour of Alcatraz if you can, usually needs to be booked in advance. Cycle over Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito, get bus to Muir woods (sounds dull buts it’s an amazing place to walk through) you can leave the bike at Sausalito and pick it back up when you return from the woods and get the ferry back to San Fran. Make sure you have a ride on the cable cars, hanging off the side if you can!

Tony’s Pizza just off Columbus is amazing, easily the best pizza in the world and he has the awards to prove it!

I wouldn't go there right now, not until next month at least, what with the 7.1 quake happening in the area last night and the 6.9 the day before, it could be a precursor to the promised and fabled "big one"

The fault lines are not linked so one does not affect another though the 'big one' could happen any time. ;)

I remember getting a taxi to Muir woods when I was over there in 99", unfortunately when we got there the heavens opened, so we didn't stay for long or venture into the woods very far.

As mentioned Alcatraz is good as well as Golden Gate park, I remember a Japanese garden in the park as well.

They don't need to be linked, The Landers EQ had a knock on effect on other fault lines

The quake was preceded by the 6.1 magnitude Joshua Tree earthquake on April 23, 1992, which was located to the south of the future Landers epicenter.[8] The 6.5 magnitude Big Bear earthquake, which hit about three hours later after the Landers mainshock, was originally considered an aftershock. However, the United States Geological Survey determined that this was a separate, but related, earthquake. These two earthquakes are considered a regional earthquake sequence, rather than a main shock and aftershock.[9] The 5.7 magnitude Little Skull Mountain (LSM) earthquake the following day, June 29, 1992, at 10:14 UTC near Yucca Mountain, Nevada, is also considered part of the regional sequence and may have been triggered by surface wave energy produced by the Landers earthquake. Foreshock activity, in the form of a significant increase in micro-earthquakes, was observed at Little Skull Mountain following the Landers earthquake, and the activity continued until the main LSM earthquake

The Garlock fault line which goes straight into the San Andreas is right next to where this earthquake swarm is happening :)

We did a wine tour that took us out to Napa and Sonoma. I know you say you're not a big drinker, but it's a lovely part of the world to visit nonetheless.

Also cycle across the Golden Gate Bridge.

Also depending on timing you might be able to take in a sporting event?

You can run all along the bay from Fisherman’s Wharf up to Crissy Field.

Try Tony’s Pizza on Stockton St. They used to do a chilli filled number called Fear & Loathing.

Do not use the subway nor the BART as they make the worst tube line look good. Stay out of the Mission District.

I regret not having ridden a tram, but inadvertently drove down Lombard street

...also, I don't know if you can get to the top of the pyramid skyscraper (google tells me is the transamerica pyramid)

This was by far the best thing we did in san Fran. Really worth the day out.

You can't, it is an office building and unless you are on an entry list or a courier with a valid delivery you ain't getting in. I have been inside twice to visit a client and this is the view from one of their offices.

Yep, that is Alcatraz just to the left of Coit Tower.

No, working with yet another electric car company in Newark.

Will try and book myself on the night tour for Alcatraz for sure by the sounds of it.

Booked a car and a night at Mendocino bit of a drive but will be nice to get out of the city, flight back is not till late monday. So pending no more epic earthquakes plenty of time.
