Been holding off from upgrading for ages but the 2070 super looks tempting, I also have a free 215.00 on amazon from a double refund mistake months ago so could get it for pretty cheap, I am on 1440p and 980ti still holds it own but I am using a pg279q and have to turn down a fair bit of eye candy to get that delicious 144fps , so what you think

I'm actually thinking of doing the same thing. 980ti to either the 2070 super, 5700XT or wait a bit longer and see what the 2080 Super and 2080 Super TI bring. Just waiting on a few benchmarks today to see if they shed any more light on performance differences.

I'm the same, 980ti (but on 3440x1440) and thinking of 2070 Super. Half wondering whether 2080S would be better, but if the 2070S is about £500, I'm just not sure I can justify 50% more, especially as PC gaming seems to be more console ports and less inovation these days. I guess I could wait 2 weeks for 2080S reviews and hope 2070S stock is both still about and not elivated in price due to demand.

ive got a 980 ti / i7 5820k system, a gtx 2070 super is almost compelling, but i dislike another high spend for a graphics card, to me the magic number is £400 as a decent stop gap for a new pc down the road, this week will be interesting

The new AMD 5700XT is only £380 and trades blows with the 2070 super. A better option for those who don't want to spend £450+.

as a 980Ti owner myself I don't follow the logic of upgrading to a 2070S because you might as well have had a 1080Ti for the past 2yrs for what £150 more (until the prices went loopy)

Imho 980Ti owners are faced with all manner of unpalatable options that personally I'd avoid unless your card fails. I'd wait it out at the very least until the 2080S price/perf is known but ideally when big Navi and 7nm 3000 series (ampere?) comes in about a year. Otherwise you're just getting poor value remember an overclocked 980Ti is close to stock 1080 perf.

What I would say is more interesting is the effect 2070S will have on 2nd hand 1080Ti cos why on earth would they be worth more than £350-ish now you might as well get a 2070S.

You can’t rewind time 2 Years so no point trying to find logic in what people could have done in the past, no one knew back then what the future held, I have a 980ti and I’ve wanted to upgrade for a while, I don’t want to spend much more than £400 so the new radeons or one of the supers are looking likely. Could I wait another year? Sure (I’ve already put upgrading off for a few years) although always putting things off until the next tech is available gets you nowhere as something better is always just around the corner

its more a case of evaluating what you get for your money, so if a 1080Ti wasn't enough for you in 2017 then why is a 2070S good enough in 2019?

It was good enough, but I couldn’t justify buying it back then, also I liked to skip an upgrade, so back then instead of wanting to get the 1080ti I was waiting for what came after that but then prices shot up and and performance didn’t seem to massively increase, I haven’t spent money on myself for a long time so I feel with all the latest releases it’s about time to treat myself, but resign myself to knowing that the huge performance jumps of the past seem non existent now unless you’re willing to part with an arm and a leg so I’ll probably never buy high end again

Although if anything comes of my ppi claim I may look at the 2080 super ;)

I too have a GTX 980 ti and have held off upgrading yet now tempted by the 2070 super. It comes down to price I suppose. The 1080 ti was around £700 on launch, maybe higher, whereas the Super 'should' be under £500. I paid around £380 for my Zotac 980 ti so feel had my money's worth. Would like something 'higher' but can't afford nor justify. At least I can put the 980 ti in another PC I have and sell the 970 removed from that.
