Tiny Tom said something along the lines of:

For anything 3700x and below you are OK with a x470 and below board. For anything 3900x you will want to get a x570 mobo for the vrms etc...

Your mileage may vary.
Why are the VRMs important when all of the CPUs we've seen have Zero overclocking headroom? I'd love to see the 4.7 boost clocks in a review but it seems
overbuilt VRMs are just that....overbuilt. The 3600 gets pretty toasty at 4.2ghz so the 3900 is going to be cooking eggs at stock before the VRM's are warming the toast.
Unless I missed breakfast or something else?

Will there even be an X670? With Zen 3 seemingly the last hurrah for AM4 with AM5 probably moving to DDR5 etc it might not be worth the effort.

Well i cannot see into the future but who knows. AMD said they will support AM4 till 2020 so that might include a x670 in 2020 then into 2021 AM5 but i dont really know. If AM5 and DDR5 come ou next year that might be even a bigger leap but i would imagine an even bigger price hike in motherboards and ram

Are you including all the PCs in schools, colleges, universities, banks, estate agents, shops, airports, solicitors, accountants etc. Are you suggesting that most PCs are bought for gaming?
I suspect he means you're more likely to find someone gaming on a PC than doing video editing or a similarly CPU/thread intensive task. Obviously porn and tinterweb/email are what PC's are really used for plus checking the weather.

No I'm only talking about powerful hardware like the 3700X/3900X or 9900K.

Not in games it seems.
Correct.... In heavy work loads they do... In games not so...

The same memory gains are not to be had on this cpu the best is 3600c14-16 but 3200c14 is very good.... It's now like clocking Intel... So look to core first then, IF then mems... But IF pushes mems... For me if IF could do like 2500mhz then this is a crazy cpu as I am pretty sure this holds back gaming performance....

My hope is the next amd cpu has stronger IF and they focus on this.. Without it strong Imc is sadly a feature not a benefit...

CPUs in general are great though and x570 is also a solid platform...

thanks you very much that's exactly what I wanted to see. cheapo ram it is. poor sods that bought expensive stuff recently for 3000 cpus

Yeah I was fretting over getting a 16GB 3200CL14 kit for £150 and after reading up decided to go for some Ballistix Sport LT 32GB 3200CL16 (micron) for the same price. Should have some OC headroom to 3600CL16 too, but not a huge deal if not.
