'upgrading' from a 1700 to a 3700x with my existing X370 Taichi and 3600c16 RAM. Hoping it won't take them too long to get the BIOSs for older boards up to scratch.

Was a bit on the fence for same core count, but ~500MHz + the IPC improvements since Gen1 Ryzen should hopefully make it a bit better in gaming at least.
Will also mean I will put the 1700 in to a second machine which will be for games servers/audio work and for mates to use when they come over to game, rather than having to lug their rigs over to mine (this was otherwise going to be my old 2500k setup, which I'll sell to part fund the mobo and RAM I need for that system).

Bought
3800X
Asrock x570 Taichi

Swapping the below from my old rig

2 x 250gb Samsung nvme drives
2 x Samsung 250GB 850SSD's
1000w Superflower Plat PSU
Vega 64 Nitro
Evga CLC 280 AIO
3600 C16 Trident Z RGB
Phanteks P600s Case
Acer 100mhz Freesync 3440x1440p UW 35" Screen.

Moving from the above bits with a CH6 and 1700 @3.8ghz 1.34v

Once the CPU and Mobo turn up i intend to bench my current setup, then replace the 1700 with the 3800x and see how the CH6 treats it and bench again.

Then swap it all over to the 3800x and bench again for a final time.

Wont be reinstalling windows until i feel there is a specific amount of performance loss.

Wanted to start a Zen2 owners thread so new owners can compare and discuss hopefully without the usual bickering between which platform is better. And hopefully help prospective buyers who may be in a similar position in the future.

Feel free to post and discuss your setups old and new.
That looks nice! What res are you at? Do you own Arma 3?

Moving from a trusty i7 3770k to a 3900X here.

It’ll be partnered with an ASRock X570 Taichi, Corsair 3200 DDR4 and a Corsair MP510 SSD.

Hopefully this will prove to be another base setup that will last for many years.

Have ordered the following, coming tomorrow

-3900x
- msi tomahawk b450
- 32gb 3200mhz ram
- seasonic 750w plat psu
- 1tb nvme
- 2tb ssd

then I'll be ordering a 2060 super tomorrow. Not sure which yet - just want the quietest one really.

I'll be moving to this from a 2011 imac...

As stated in my post 3440x1440p 100hz Freesync

And no I don't own Arma3, game doesn't interest me in the slightest unfortunately :(

I pretty much only play Mmorpgs and Arpgs, and the very occasional shooter like BF or extremely rarely Cod, my kids play that fortnight and Apex Legends nonsense tho

I bought them a 2600x just after Xmas on an MSI B450 gaming Pro Carbon, I may swap them to the 3600x as they have the same ram as me, that should sort them for ages, they have my old 1080FE and paired with my old 27" 1440p 144hz Freesync screen running in G-Sync.

For a while their PC was faster than mine!

I'm one of the no doubt countless other people with a variation on this mid range setup:

  • 3600
  • MSI B450 Gaming Pro Carbon
  • 16Gb 3200 ram
  • Corsair 550W Gold PSU
  • 500Gb NVMe
  • 2 x 1Tb SSD
  • Radeon RX 580
I'm going to put some stickers on it and get a sick mousemat. Maybe a Shrek one.

Similar to Geo772, I'm going from an i7 3820, 16gb ddr3, Samsung ssd to a 3600x, x570 taichi, 8 pack 3600mhz ram, corsair mp510 m.2 after nearly 7 years with the current setup. Plan is to see what cpu's come out for ryzen 4000, but at least i'm more ready for a graphics upgrade and have a futureproof platform now. hopefully this board will see another 2 gpu's out

This was one thing I really couldn't make my mind up on and I've ended up choosing to go with a B450. I know in all likelihood it won't support Zen3 but I just couldn't justify the outlay on an x570 just now. I know it would make sense in the long run but I'm hoping I'll be happy with this rig for at least a few years.

Just ordered a 3900x to go with a crosshair hero 6. Would like to see my RAM working at the correct speed of 3600Mhz as I cannot run 4 sticks at his speed. 2 sticks at 3600Mhz is fine.
