What's the recommendations for building a small wall in the following location?

If Im right, foundations need to be at least 150mm thick and 2x the wall width wide. I've dug out the old soil and have hit clay.

I was going to lay a few concrete blocks on their side and cement these in place and then brick on top of these. Or would a c20 mix be more preferable?

(yes the post needs replacing!)

That fence post looks a bit ropey.

I agree - you need to sort that out before you pour a load of concrete and build a wall around it making it much more tricky to get at in the future...

And regarding your blocks, they will be a pain to get level. I would just lay a normal concrete foundation.

As you are replacing the post I would put in a concrete one. You’ll have problems getting it out again cleanly when it fails again in a few years time with the new wall in place.
