I'm considering upgrade my 1600x to some 3000 series.
Is it worth?
Will likely upgrade motherboard too.
At the moment:
Asus B350-F
XFX 2080
16GB 8-Pack 1600 die b

Here is a 2600 vs 3600 test.

https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/posts/32855207/

1600 has roughly similar IPC as the 2600, so you should be able to work the IPC gain to the 3600.

The 1600 should be bottlenecking the 2080 massively in certain games. For example the third benchmark scene in Shadow of the Tomb Raider probably dips to 50fps even though the 2080 should be capable of pushing way more (very noticeable when you are playing the game in the same area). Assassin's Creed Odyssey also should be bottlenecked.

I previously had a 2600X with a 1080ti so I did quickly learn the bottleneck scenarios which prevented the card being able to hit 60fps.

Whilst I don't have a 1080ti anymore, I am hitting higher fps with a 3600 combined with a worse graphics card in those same scenarios and am definitely GPU bound.

Saying all that, most situations even with Zen/Zen+ (when bottlenecked) can be resolved by simply turning the settings up and lowering the frame rate expectation.

Just a side note, the 3600 will be totally fine in the B350-F, all it needs is the latest bios. So you can make use of the new cpu, then later on upgrade the mobo if required.

I wouldn't upgrade the motherboard tbh. It is fine and one of the benefits of buying an AM4 motherboard in the first place.

The benefit of getting 3xxx chip falls significantly if you have to buy a new motherboard as well when you have an existing system.

Yeah if the BIOS supports the 3600
It does, iv been keeping an eye on it personally as i have the same board, there is actually an even newer bios now with updated agesa, the previous one to that one added support upto the R7 3800X.

Vrms may get toasty on the beefier cpu's but for the lower ones i can't see an issue personally, i'm planning on grabbing a 3600 personally to replace my 2600X, and i'll upgrade the mobo down the line at some point.

In games the Ryzen 5 2600 actually can get have much greater apparent IPC improvements over the Ryzen 5 1600,due to games responding well to the decease in cache latencies. Now add the Ryzen 5 3600 improvements on top and it will a decent improvement.

Quick question: what temperatures are you getting at the PCH of the B350F? Mine, now with a fan point at it, between 40C and 50C. The CPU and GPU are watercooled, top fans and bottom fans as intake. Also the M2 is at the 40's Celsius at idle, low 50's under load. Any joy running cooler?
I'm considering using the rear fan as intake, and change the front to exhaust. Case is the Enthoo Primo, top rad 420 push/pull intake, bottom rad 280 push/pull intake.

The temps seem fine. Maybe try and a Antec spot cool.

I have the 1600x and b350-f also

Cant make mymind up which way to go though, I have a few quid spare so dont mine splashing out a bit to treat my self. So I was leaning towards the 3700 or 3800 but would like to see some benchmarks how they perform in the b350-f.

I'm using the B350-F with a 1700 and see the 3600 as a potential upgrade. I don't mind loosing a couple of cores when there is such a good performance gain to be had overall.

At the moment, all seems ok. Had the BIOS updated to the last version few weeks ago. At the same time added another 16GB 8pack 3200 and still, no nasty surprises.
The processors, without any adjustments, is running cooler than the 1600x, and under over a hour stress testing, was at high 40s C. It's water cooled, but at the exactly same setup, I was getting mid 50s with the 1600x.
Another thing is, the PCH was way hot for my liking before, and still was. Despite good airflow, even with a fan closely pointed at it, was at mid 40s, and without the fan would go mid 50s. Replaced the thermal pad for the 1mm gelid gp extreme, which is rated at 12w/mk. Temperature now at mid 30s.
VRM still running as cool as before.
