Who gives a flying toss about the CPU-Z benchmark?? It reflects no actual real world workload.

In games it's the same. https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/amd_ryzen_7_3700x_ryzen_9_3900x_review,24.html

As opposed to Nvidia and Intels? Lol

Nope, together with them.

1. AMD could have postponed the price gouging in this generation, and do it the next one.
2. Virtually everyone complains when there is memory prices fixing, when there is CPU and videocards prices fixing, the same people take it as normal. https://www.techpowerup.com/257092/...eements-could-compromise-global-memory-supply

Guys and girls the 3900x is just an example of product segmentation.

AMD do it, intel do, nvidia do it and so do many other companies.

Its a perfectly sensible business strategy especially where you have a fast moving market like CPU's where most of the costs are tied up in research and development, where you have issues with yield for high end products (where some dies can be re purposed for lower end products) and where you have a market where people will pay a high premium for a better product.

AMD are not 'evil' or 'greedy' any more than any other company and given recent finacial woes its probably a good thing that they can reap some higher margins these days.

They also currently have more customer friendly policies like support for multiple generations of CPU's on motherboards unlike Intel who have almost certainly engineered unnecessary obsolescence into their mobo chipsets and sockets so they could force consumers to pay up for a new motherboard if they wanted to upgrade CPU's in a lot of cases.

3900 is not a whole new Ryzen 9, it's just a naming scheme which legalises AMD's infinite greed.

The difference between the 2700X and 3700X is very little - somewhere around 8% in CPU-Z https://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/amd-ryzen-7-3700x-ryzen-9-3900x-review,11.html and 15% in CB15 https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/amd_ryzen_7_3700x_ryzen_9_3900x_review,9.html performance jump and it doesn't warrant to be called a replacement.

This is actually the same level generational improvement as intel's were before 2017 and the original Ryzen launch.

You win the prize for the oddest post of the week, someone says the Ryzen 9, specifically the 3900X, is a new SKU and you claim it's not by comparing a 2700X with a 3700X.

Was looking at Ryzen chips earlier for a possible Nas build with high core count and it occurred to me that there's rather a large whole in the range when it comes to integrated graphics.

I can only get a quad core Ryzen with integrated graphics opposed to an octo core 9900 from Intel. I know these are meant to be desktop/work station chips but even when you look at TR no integrated graphics for server builds. Is TR also only intended for PC's?

Just seemed a bit of an omission from AMD on this.

It depends a lot on what you plan to do with the NAS but unless you’re looking at passing through a GPU to something you really don’t need any type of graphics past the initial installation. I went for Xeon E3 L’s without IGP’s. The critical feature for most NAS setups is ECC and Intel only offer that on Xeon CPU’s and chipsets.

if its just for a display out you can buy old gpus for about £5 - overclocked a load of them for fun.

I know, I just don't want to put a crud card into a new build with a glass sided case.

It just seems odd to me that the AMD line up includes x570 boards with display outputs when integrated graphics only exist on the more modest end of the CPU range. It also seems odd that no provision exists with TR to include integrated graphics anywhere throughout the range (x399 boards don't feature display outputs). Seems like a gap in the market for AMD to introduce some SKU's with some form of moderate integrated graphics when you look at what's available from Intel.

I have managed to avoid putting anyone on ignore in all my years on the forum, but sorry you have to go on it.

15% performance jump isn't enough for a replacement? Weird. That also ignores the fact that things such as Adobe Premiere have a 20% performance jump. 36% in H.265 encoding etc. too.

What about games? Look at games where the 2700X suffered previously - 28% increase in Arma 3, 30% increase in CSGO etc.

What's more I don't need to buy expensive B-Die ram any more to actually get good results.

A worthy replacement unless you're high off your own farts.

Shame Noctua haven't released their black coolers yet. The beige fans are enough to make me hurl.

I wonder how many lost sales Noctua have had through the years, down to their stubbornness in having this poo coloured fan?

I have had windowed cases for years and immediately discount the Noctuas due the colour.

Don't want to be looking at that.
