The difference between this and the moneypenny story is that the moneypenny story was there to explain why Bond has a flirtatious relationship with M's secretary. She just happened to be black.

But this is another example of the agenda leading the story.

It is just clickbait and who knows who will be cast as the next 007. We shall see.

I think it's just testing the water. If the movie flops hard, they have an escape route back to mainstream bond.
If it earns well the rip commander bond.

Prediction; it's a tiny joke at the beginning of the movie that may or may not be true anyway. Even if she is 007, Bond is reinstated before you can say "BLM" or whatever and it's absolutely nothing to get hyped up about.

Anyway, 007 /= Bond necessarily.

to be fair though, 007 is pretty synonymous w/ James Bond. if you tell your average co-worker/mate/whoever xxx is playing 007 I can virtually guarantee they'll think you mean JB.

I believe it’s Bond Movie canon that 00 numbers are unique and the number “retires” with the holder.

A mixed race, pansexual Wiccan with 3 legs and 2 heads can be 00X for all I care. He/she/they/it just can’t be 007 without curling a huge brown trout out onto Bond lore.

well it's not much of an in-joke if it doesn't make sense. as far as I, and seemingly others, understood the 007 was assigned to an agent, not passed around randomly on retirement/death. that tied to the comments quoted about how the woman is oh-so-cool to be above his flirting attempts etc seems to suggest it was not "quick in joke" at all.

No chance I will go and see it, not because of this, just because it will be awful and I have hated the last 3 films after loving Casino Royale.

Yeah tbh the whole style of bond doesn't translate well to the modern political world.

Hence the crap we have post Goldeneye.

There's so many exotic action films these days, bond rarely cuts the mustard
