Individuals lie, the government as a whole doesn't. We don't have a regime that make people vanish when they don't tow the party line (like Russia). So it gets out and investigated like the stuff which happened in Afghanistan.

LOL.
"No deal is better than a bad deal".
"Brexit means Brexit."
"We will take us out of the EU".
"Our economy will crash if we vote to leave the EU".
"Islam is a religion of peace."
"For the many, not the few".
"Gender pay gap."
etc
etc
etc
A young relative came home from school the other day and announced that men can give birth. Further investigation showed it was government policy to tell this lie to young kids.

Like the fact Russia is currently invading Ukraine and Georgia, everyone knows it, but they still deny it.
Have you got any source for the Georgia claim? I haven't seen anything about it in any media mainstream or otherwise, unlike their antics in Ukraine which Stevie Wonder could spot from space.

Russia is always having a go at the Georgian boarder. A few years ago they rolled in to border towns and cut communications, to stop them calling for help. Nothing like Ukraine with people actually being killed, but they think their border is a few miles in to Georgian territory...

There was that full on invasion a few years back:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/7550354.stm

Russian forces are locked in fierce clashes with Georgia inside its breakaway South Ossetia region, reports say, amid fears of all-out war.

Moscow sent armoured units across the border after Georgia moved against Russian-backed separatists.

Russia says 12 of its soldiers are dead, and separatists estimate that 1,400 civilians have died.

Georgia accuses Russia of waging war, and says it has suffered heavy losses in bombing raids, which Russia denies.

They didn't exactly just decide to leave Georgia alone afterwards either, it is similar to the set up in Ukraine where there are some breakaway satellite states recognised pretty much only by Russia and which Russia has been directly funding. The difference is that the Russian presence in the breakaway Georgian regions is overt and acknowledged rather than the claims that their presence in Ukraine is just Russian troops volunteering on their holidays.

Now they're just moving the border fences every so often to expand (and according to a Georgian friend of mine, occasionally shooting Georgians living in border villages at random)

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-45100160
For the remaining Georgian civilians still living in the area along the boundary line life is difficult.

There have been disputes over Russian soldiers arbitrarily moving boundary fences, cutting villagers off from their homes and fields. Georgia has accused Russia of abductions.

Also some recent increase in tensions relating to the election of a Russian MP in Georgia and Putin stopping all flights:

Looks like it might be a 'ghost ship' that carries UAE oil to it's proxies in Yemen and/or Somalia.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2019/07/18/iran-seizes-oil-tanker-gulf/

According to Lloyd’s List Intelligence data the tanker made no port calls over the past year, had 27 days of dark activities and met 55 times with another vessel, and had trading patterns characteristic of clandestine ship-to-ship transfers.

It said turning off the automatic identification system, known as “going dark”, is frequently done by tankers loaded with Iranian crude, in order to avoid detection and evade US sanctions.

The Riah appeared to be receiving fuel from an unknown source offshore of the UAE, and then transhipping it to other tankers which usually carried it to Somalia or war-torn Yemen, where the UAE and Iran are backing different sides of the conflict.

Murky dealings.

Claims the Stena Impero has been seized by Iran but so far rather dubious sources. Can't imagine this ending well if true.

Act of piracy? Do you actually believe the rubbish you post or are you just posting any old rubbish for ***** and giggles?

What was it then? There was no legal basis for it - EU sanctions are not enforceable against non-members.

The only body that can authorise such sanctions that have international effect is the UN Security Council and they haven't prohibited oil being exported to Syria.

It was piracy.

As Rroff has mentioned Iran is claiming they have seized a UK tanker.

https://sputniknews.com/world/20190...with-its-tanker-in-the-persian-gulf---report/

Did the UK think Iran wouldn't take retaliatory actions for their act of piracy against the Iranian tanker off of Gibraltar, eh?

All the UK has accomplished is putting British sailors and ships at risk for the benefit of the US.
Act of piracy? What kind of lunacy are you talking about, it was seized on behalf of EU sanctions that we are duty bound to uphold.
