Been offered £200 for my 980ti; so looking to upgrade as I can't play most games on ultra with the card running 3440x1440 @100fps

The games I mainly play:

Apex Legends
Forza Horizon 4
GTA
Destiny 2
Division 2

and will be looking to play some of the newer games that are coming out.

Also, do we think an x3 fan card would fit in my case? say an MSI RTX 2070 SUPER Gaming X Trio

how urgently do you want to change? and is your monitor g-sync (or you desperate for ray tracing)?

I'm in the same boat - 980ti with 3440x1440 monitor. I've got an order for the Asus 2070S in the system, but I only got in the queue due to comments about limited stock and likely waiting times. I was waiting to see how the 2080S reviewed, but given the cost, I’ve 99% ruled them out (but, I guess if I was offered £200 for my 980ti, then it might be more tempting). If I didn’t have a 2070S order already in the system and I wasn’t desperate to change, then I think I’d wait to see how the 3rd party 5700XT pre-oc’d cards perform, as they could be pretty close to the 2070S for less $. Saying that, I’m still yet to see a Asus 2070S Evo review anyway...

Asus 2070S EVO stock delivery times, your guess is as good as mine… Reading on here, it sounds like only 5-6 Asus cards arrived this week, so I should be in the next batch, but it now sounds like there’s close to, or over 100 cards ordered (if the price is no longer 475, then there’s over 150 ordered, as it was frozen for the first 150 off), so the delivery time for all those, if you now join the back of the queue, could be a while… Or choose a slower, possibly more expensive, 2070S…

I think the 2070S and 2080 will be too slow for rtx at 3440x1440, so there’s no harm thinking about the ati options.

Yes its G-Sync, X34A.

Sorry I'm a bit behind, what is the ATI?

2080 is now redundant as the 2070 Super matches it.

Your options are 2080 Super or 2080ti.

---

Let me qualify my earlier statement. Of course a 2070 Super will cut it. Provided your not expecting Ultra quality at full resolution.

Well yeah, i kinda am, I just want to run Apex on at least high, I have to have everything on very low at the moment and I still get 60-85fps with everything turned right down to the bottom.

all other games i can run on high, just not ultra... but Apex won't even run nice on low unless i go into 1080p on an ultrawide monitor which looks gash.

A 2070 super is give or take a 1080ti. So is that a big enough jump?

For what you want you need a 2080 ti. A 2070S/2080 is going to hover more in the 70-80s. That being said, when you get offered £200 for a 980 ti you should take that ASAP! Great price tbh. And the jump to a 2070S is going to be significant no matter how you slice it. I Don't think you'll regret it.

I guess that's good enough for me. the extra £600 for a 2080ti just doesn't seem worth 10fps for.

I agree, absolutely not. Hopefully we'll see that performance at a more reasonable price point in the next 12 months. Even then in my case I tend to want more from GPU upgrades so will wait until there's a card offering a consistent 50%+ increase over my 1080 Ti.

This is really good to know as I've been looking to replace my 980Ti for a while, but not paying 2080Ti prices. I'm liking the 2070S though, looks really good value.
