With two kids PC's now having issues with both MSI HD7950 Twin Frozr GPU's now exibiting in game graphics glitches, running a bit warm, PC restarts and bluescreens.
I am looking at buying two replacement GPU's ro replace the HD7950's with.

One person advised the RX570 GPU as suitable, both kids game at 1080p, both of them run older machines, one is actually an old 775 system with a Q9550 that will likely get my old PC. The other on a G3258 that will most likely end up replaced with a 4770k later. Both will most likely be running 4770k i7's with 16gb of memory for a few years.

Both on W7 and will be moving onto W10 this year. Both with 240gb SSD for the OS drives and mechanical for games and storage. Not sure if they will ever do 1440p, as it's usually either a 1080p 32" tv running at 60hz or a 1080p monitor up to 120hz.

I know one lad felt the HD7950 could be better as he could not run all games maxxed, one had to reduce his games settings when he borrowed the 1050ti 4gb.
Games are all sorts, WoT, Warframe, Unturned, BF titles, just about all and anything.

Should I go 8gb or is 4gb more than enough these days or next year or two?

One case is a windowed RGB lit NZXT 350 in white with a Gigabyte Z-97X-SOC so a backplate preffered.

570 is basically identical performance to a 7950. so basically a 570x a 1050 are identical in performance. a 1050 ti is sometimes a couple of fps higher. id try and find something 2nd hand. 970s are like 50-60 quid. 1060s start about 80-90. a 7950 will still play most things at 1080 still. its probably one of the best value cards ever made. to think 7 years on its the same as a amd 570 is amazing.

4gb should be enough @ 1080p for now, in 2 years I can't say

This video shows the 1060 6gb vs 3gb. the 6gb has more processing cores so it is faster but VRAM drop out isn't apparent at

It's a year old but there wasn't much drop out on VRAM on the latest games at 1080p with 3gb. Some games will benefit from being settings being slightly comprimised.

I can't recommend 4GB in 2019, even for 1080p gaming. Some will say it's enough, but as someone who used to have a 4GB card until 2018, let me tell you... it's not.

RX570 8GB if you are on tight budget sub £200. Otherwise Vega 56 in mid £250 range.

£129

£260

There are no other options with better value. Next one up is the 5700 and 5700XT.

This isn't true, this is a comparison of a 470 compared to a 7950 and a 570 is 10% quicker, now with better driver optimisation

10 percent. so you going to pay £100 quid for 5-10 fps?

there are numerous videos showing 7950 is literally the same even faster sometimes than a 570x and a 1050 non ti card. driver optimization yeah i can see a little more performance coming from that but paying £100 to come from a 7950 to that basically nothing performance. nah. not worth it..might aswell get a 970 gtx for £60.

Buying second hand does have risk attached though, the lack of a warranty being one, and the condition of the card being another. If the card dies, and there's no warranty, then you haven't saved money at all.

Not a huge fan of second hand to be honest. Had fully expected to have had built myself a new PC by now and have passed the 1070 to one of the lads. 1050ti is my daughters and OK for th eindie games she plays.

Yeah I was quite fond of the HD7950's but always seemed to be a little too pushed with heat and glitch issues even when I used them. Really was hoping to not need to spend a lot but get more performance than the HD7950 with a new budget card.

The RX 580 is a better card, and isn't what I would personally call expensive. There's also the RX 570, if budget is a real concern. I would consider both very good bang for buck cards for 1080p gaming.

If you're looking for a massive leap in performance, then you're not going to find it sub £200 I'm afraid. That ship sailed long ago.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £596.96 (includes shipping: £0.00)

What? The 570 is way faster than the GTX1050Ti. It's not even remotely close, they're difference performance classes completely.

watch you can see that 7950 can often out perform a few of the cards. over all in the tests its faster than the new amds cards and the 1050 not the ti. in some games in can be faster in odd games but not worth 100 quid upgrade.

the point is would you pay over 100 extra from a 7950 to gain about 10 fps ?

the answer is no. you wouldnt.

the 7950 is basically a 560x already. would you upgrade from a 560 to a 570 ? no.

So there isn't a noticeable difference from 30 to 40 FPS? Besides, I'm recommending the 8GB models not the 4GB, which is an upgrade I have personally been through. It's worth it.
