Looking for a budget GPU for 1080p gaming. 4gb or 8gb?

I mean you go for 8gb where possible but as a 1080p card are you going to see frame drops because of 4gb anytime soon?

I certainly did, and an upgrade to 6GB was very noticeable for me when playing at 1080p. Then I went to 8GB, and again it was a noticeable difference for the better.

No one should be buying 4GB cards in 2019, not for gaming. It's not as if they are even significantly cheaper for that lack of an extra 4GB!

depends on what you play. 970 can be infront sometimes the 570x is infront. remember 970s go for about 50-60. a new 570x is 100-120. double price for next to no difference. apart from warranty.

I'll admit that the 4 gig version of each are quite similar in terms of performance, however for the most part the 4 gig 570 is generally ever so slightly faster. I would VERY much like to see where you're finding GTX 970's for £50-60, as that seems like a steal. Looking on the famous auction site, the lowest I could find was more like £70-£80, which is almost EXACTLY what used 570's go for.

The GTX 970 is almost 5 years old. The RX 570 4GB is roughly 2 years old.

members market numerous places. i personally wouldnt pay above £50 for one as you can get a 570x for just under £100 new most of the time and sometimes with games or extras. which you sell so it makes it cheap decent performance.

I have a system with a RX 570 8gb and one with a RX 580 4gb. Personally I haven't noticed much difference at 60hz. Some games like Assasins Creed Odyssey/Origins I have to drop settings on both cards. The latest Tomb Raider games can be maxed out at 60fps. Maybe I don't play enough demanding games right now to notice.

It's almost like you're living in an alternate reality - From that Video:

Doom 7950 - 73 fps
Doom RX470 - 111.5 fps

GTA V 7950 - 61.5 fps
GTA V RX470 - 69 fps

Forza Apex 7950 - 55.4 fps
Forza Apex RX470 - 92 fps

Rot Tomb Raider 7950 - 36.5 fps
Rot Tomb Raider RX470 - 64 fps

Hitman 7950 - 38.5 fps
Hitman RX470 -59.1 fps

The only game they are close in is GTA V which is fairly CPU limited - RX470 is almost double the speed of a 7950 in these games, RX570 is another 10% faster...

The RX 570 is miles ahead of the 7950 and 1050TI @~>Dg<~ seriously man where do you keep getting crap like this from? shut up, please.

From that chart vs the RX 470

+57%
+15%
+68%
+75%
+55%

GTX 970 is a good card too, i had one, similar performance to an RX 570, and about 40% faster than a 1050TI.

however, these days i would go for an 8GB card, even at 1080P which both the RX 570 and GTX 970 are perfectly capable of.

i got it mixxed up basically a 7950 is = to a 560 not a 570. 570 go for under £100 new. so decent card for low budget. even 8gb ones go for as low as £120. they arent worth no more than that. regardless. 2nd hand 60-70 depending on brand.

I put together a 3770 with 12 GB and put in an RX570 4GB for my nephew - for 1080p it flies and is pretty quiet as well. It helps the 570 came with 2 games I wanted so at £110 it effectively cost me £20. I used to have a 970 in the same machine (a friend "borrowed" it when his gpu died) and to be honest at 1080p the difference in fps was marginal (and a lot quieter).

I guess it depends what you want or need from the card, but for me 4GB wasn't enough even at 1080p.
