A popular B450 or X470 board will give you everything you need from X570 at half the price and without the silly fan.

When I’m back at a proper PC I’ll link one that is oft recommend on the boards.

AMD Ryzen 7 3700X Eight Core 4.4GHz (Socket AM4) Processor - Retail

Kingston HyperX Predator 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-25600C16 3200MHz Dual Channel Kit (HX432C16PB3K2/16)
Gigabyte X570 AORUS PRO (AMD AM4) DDR4 X570 Chipset ATX Motherboard

I've got everything else and it will go with a 1080FE - coming from my i7 2600k with plans to upgrade to 3900x/3950x down the line when it is out (probably anyway!)

Erm nope, what would you recommend? I'm wanting to try and future proof? I've not upgraded my mobo/cpu/ram in about 7 years to give you an idea of my frequency!

Well, you will be fine with a cheaper X570 board:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £602.97 (includes shipping: £0.00)

If you can wait for the motherboard to come back in stock:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £459.93 (includes shipping: £0.00)

If you can't wait:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £449.97 (includes shipping: £0.00)

Be aware this RAM has high heat spreaders. If that might interfere with your cooler or future choice of cooler consider shopping around.

Those results contradict the more varied games tested in the link I sourced.

Only a 5 FPS difference in TPU's testing of BFV with a 3900X. I don't quite believe a 25 FPS difference in their testing of 1 game personally :p

Thanks for this - I think I want a X570 for the future proofing but I'm not certain (other than tried and tested) if there are any advantages to go for the older boards?

This spec looks ideal to me so likely I'm going to look at ordering this :)

X570 has a few bios issues right now, most of the boards have a chipset fan which is something I haven’t seen since the 90s and creates a point of failure and a lot of noise.

But - get what you’re happy with! It is your money :)

x570 has priority over bios updates, then x470 then b450 from vendors point of view . chipset fan is needed, but only running pcie 4 - which is a bit of a shame as no one is lol

im half tempted to make a fin array like Gigabyte fits to its boards for likes of gigabyte, asus, msi boards and do away with the fan and make some cash- just getting the time to CAD it up and CNC it :(

I hope you have better skills than Buildzoid's sketch-up attempt:

If you watch it i think Buildzoid has forgotten that the existing PCH heatsink could be given a larger surface area without the pre-existing fan sunken into it. This would mean his fin-stack idea may not have to be quite as large as anticipated - especially near the end of his video where its size gets a bit over ambitious.
